Hi statsgoddess, I'm am really sorry for the loss of your baby and I hope you're recovering well. Glad to hear that your last scan went well...sounds like you've got some active LO's in there:) Must be exciting to see them "do stuff" as we've only seen ours at 7.3 weeks so far. Thanks so much for sharing your doc info and if you don't mind can I ask you a couple more questions as we're right in the midst of working w/ the military docs and deciding who we will choose as of Jan 1st.

Did you opt to work w/ the OB instead of the high risk doc full-time?
Also, did you have the high risk doc assigned automatcially from the beginning b/c of the multiple pregancy diagnosis or for some other reason?
Have you ever had any of the RN's do the internal u/s's? At my appt today they told me that the midwife RN will only see me for my intial internal u/s (Dec 14th at 10wks) and then pass me on the OB for anything going fwd b/c its twins.

Hi all-
Sorry I haven't posted in awhile. I have been updating. Lisa and Shelby I hope all is well with your DH's and Bubbles welcome and congrats. Stats...so fun for you to see your babies...loved the kicking story=)
I had my last appt. at the fertility clinic and go to my OB for the first time next week. I am ready to see him as I still feel somewhat clueless about pregnancy and what I might need to know. I finished up my shots on Monday night...YEAH!. Just praying everything in my own body is ready to take over.
We saw the baby moving all over the place...arms, legs. It was so amazing!

Our thanksgiving was crazy. We headed to Florida with my DH's whole family. My step daughter (18) who lives with her mother made it very clear how she feels about the baby (and me) and it was not positive. It was very hurtful and stressful...just what I need right now. I get the fact that divorce is horrible on kids but I have never done anything to her but kill her with kindness. UGH!
It was really good to get back home and away from all the drama.
I hope all is well.=) Theresa

Bubbles - We were told we needed to see a high risk doctor in conjunction with the OB because of multiples. There are several groups of OBs and high risk doctors who work together and two large hospitals in the area we live, so we picked an OB who worked at the one with the most recommended NICU and went from there. The high risk doctor doesn't do the delivery, so I still needed a regular OB. Mine has been practicing for a while and has done a lot of multiples, so that's why we went with him. Our high risk doctor came highly recommended and also has offices close to my work and my home, so that was a plus. The last internal u/s I had was at my first appointment at the high risk doctor at 8.5 weeks. Our last u/s was external at 11.5 weeks.

t_west - How long have you been together with DH? I have three stepdaughters (ages 22, 17, and 15) and they are excited about the new babies. DH and I have been together for about 5 and a half years, so things are a lot different now than they were. When we first got together, the oldest (then 17) was pretty horrible to me and continued to be for a quite a few years. She has gotten over it, but it did take a while. I was very kind for several years and then after that, I told DH that I wasn't having anything to do with her anymore because I was tired of her attitude and he fully supported me. That was that until she grew up a bit, I suppose. So hopefully things will work out for you eventually, but I know it isn't easy while you are going through it.

Stats-
My husband (Doug) and I were together for a couple years before we got married and have now been married about a year and a half. My step daughter was 15 when we met and has refused to ever have anything to do with me. I would try so hard to engage her in conversation and she would not go there. It has been 3 1/2 years and we still have never had a conversation. It is basically 1 word answers to my questions. (SO frustrating.) It didn't help that she was allowed to do whatever she wanted at her mothers, so discipline was out of the question. (Doug's relationship has been strained as well because she runs away from him everytime he tries to discipline her.) She went to live with her mom shortly after she turned 16. She tends to want to attack her dad for not being a good father (which is a joke). Her exact words were..."when you asked me if it was ok for you to date...I told you NO! and you did anyway." She hasn't figured out that it wasn't her choice. This weekend I finally spoke my mind about how she treats her father and needless to say...I was (verbally)attacked. I too have told my DH that she is not welcome in my home until she apologizes and he completely agrees. Over the last year, I have pretty much given up on trying to engage her and figure she will come around some day.

I should mention that my step son who is now 16 has chosen to live with us full time. There are no issues and he seems pretty ok with the pregnancy and marriage. I think he actually chooses to be with us because he has lived in the shadow of his very stubborn, strong willed sister for so long. I am happy he made this choice as his mother's home is not the place for a teenager.

Thank you for sharing your story as well. I do find it to be very frustrating and hard to deal with. I am a first grade teacher and have the typical personality of a first grade teacher...soft hearted and kind. I have a hard time believing that I can't find a way to get along with her. I feel like she is taking away from the excitement of the baby and that crushes me. At are last US I just kept thinking about the position she has put my DH in (telling him that he is only having a baby to replace her and that he wasn't a father to her, how could he be one to a new kid) SO unfair. We talked after the US and told me that was all that he could think about.

Anyway...I will continue to deal with it and pray that someday things will improve!
Thanks for listening to me vent! It really helps to share with someone who has been there!

t west I'm sneaking back over here for a minute.
My parents are divorced and both remarried. My step father had a daughter form a previous marriage who sounds a lot like your step-daughter. Her mother was "interesting" and my step-sister had no discipline growing up with her. Her mom took her from my step-dad at 2 years old and he didn't get to speak to her until she was 12. At 12, she came to live with my family. She was so challenging my mom and step-father almost split up during the time she lived with us. She drove a wedge between them and caused so much problems to our family (at that time it was me, 15 years old, and my 2 year old half-sister. My mom and step-dad finally sent her back to live with her mother and it pretty much saved our family. He has some contact with his daughter now, but sad to say, she has not changed much as has even lost custody of her own 4 children.
Not to be a downer, but you can only try so much. My family did everything they could do. They sent her to a private school, counseling, doctors but the damage was already done on her. Right now you need to take care of your relationship with your husband, step-son and new baby. Hopefully one day, when she matures, she will come around.

Hey everyone! Sorry I have been gone so long. The holidays are already getting hectic around here.

Twest
- I'm sorry about your issues with your step daughter. @ that age they can really be opinionated and don't understand what their words and actions do to other people. Hopefully she will grow up soon and realize that's not the way to be. If not, she will really have problems as an older adult. DH and I have been together for almost 6 years and his sons were 6 & 10 then. Boys are a lot different than girls (most of the time) and I think coming into their lives that early prevented some of the problems that may have occurred had I entered the picture later. Now DH has custody of both boys, but not because the mother was unfit (although I do think her motives are very selfish @ times & not in the best interest of the kids), but because both boys WANTED to live here. Now they are 16 & 12 and the most wonderful stepsons I could have ever dreamed of. they even gave me my shots when I was stimming! I will keep you in my thoughts and hope and pray for the best. Maybe her attitude will change when she sees how beautiful new life can be.

Stats - How are you? Are you having discomfort when you get up in the mornings after laying down all night? When I stand up, I feel like a ton of bricks has fallen in my stomach and I have to support it for a while when I'm walking around. Ouch! My belly is big enough now that I am having to wear hubby's T-shirts.

Cheeky - So good to hear from you! I'm very happy for you! Congrats on your BFP!

AFM - I was supposed to have my last visit with RE a couple of weeks ago, but as I was leaving I was told that I wasn't getting rid of them that easy, so they had me come back last week. Babies are doing great! Still waving and kicking around, but they will not show us what they are!!! I guess they are too shy  . I go to my OB on 12/15, but I highly doubt she will do an u/s because i have had so many already. I am going to push for one before Christmas. Hopefully we can tell if they have a pee-pee or a ya-ya. I'll be happy with anything! I am feeling a lot better. Tired a lot, but not as nauseated. I have problems going to bathrooms- public or even my own. I started gagging when I walk in! I guess that's because of all the memories of hovering over the porcelain throne.

Dh is doing much better. His heart is beating right and we are just waiting to have his shoulder surgery later in the month. I have been so lazy when it comes to Christmas. I still have to put out my decor and go shopping. I'm no where near finished!

Hope everyone else is doing well and surving the holidays. It's about to get crazy!

Statsgoddess,
Thanks for all the info. I'm just doing my due diligence to make sure we're set up w/ the best Dr's so really do appreciate your response. We just got set up w/ the high risk doc as of jan 1st so it makes me feel a bit more at ease knowing I'll be going to someone who has experience w/ complicated cases (my RE said multiple pregnancies are same as singleton pregnancies until the middle of 2nd trimester and that is the most important time to have a high risk doc if necessary). I don't want to be paranoid, but just prepared in case we have any issues.

Anyways, how are you holding up? Any new symptoms? I haven't had too many symptoms as far as m/s and stuff(which was worrisome before we had the u/s) but I think the others are starting to kick in full force now. Weird thing is I just started to get the stuff like metal mouth and heightened smell ppl talk about in getting their 2ww...just goes to show how diff everyone can be. I am having terrible heachaches since last night and had to take the day off work today b/c of flu like symptoms (which the nurse says are normal and may be worse b/c of the multiples)...but I'm not complaining since when I didnt have any I begged for signs:) Anyways, hope all is well with you.

Shelby- Just noticed you are in the second trimester! YAH!! I think you are the earliest due date on here? I cant wait till everyone gets to share the babies genders and you will probably be our first :)

T-West- Soo glad you stood up to your step-daughter. I think sometimes that can be the most effective thing. I have never been in your situation but I have worked with behavior challenged teen girls for over 7 years. So I definitely have got my fair share of teenage drama! Hope you are enjoying your pregnancy!

Bubbles- My symptoms seem to be a lot less strong these days. I rarely feel nauseas anymore and my BB's are almost touchable. Food adversions are my big prob right now and I have metal mouth too, but I didn't know what it was until I read what you wrote! I looked it up and makes sense now :) My favorite symptom of all are the awesome preggo dreams. I feel like I'm living a seperate crazy vivid life in my sleep!

AFM- Current annoyance is "wow, do twins run in your family?" I was asked that again today and had to check my hormones when I wanted to say , "yeah, lots of my IVF sistas are having them!". My great, great, great grandma had 2 sets of twins so I have managed to contain myself and just simply say "yes" (far down the line but I will count it anyway!). Hope everyone is doing well. b/c of the holidays I dont go back to OB until Jan 5. I hope my patience holds out for me, and I'm thinking they can tell my what the genders are then!

Blessings to everyone for a wonderful Holiday season and happy healthy pregnancies!!

Hi all-
Thank you all for your support with the step-daughter issue. I have calmed down a bit about it and hope to have some time before seeing her again.

I went to my first OB appt. today and was really disappointed. I was there about 10-15 minutes max. We listened to the heartbeat with Doppler and he did a pelvic exam. (Wow..I was so spoiled from the fert. clinic.) Anyway, he mentioned an ultrasound at 20 weeks. (seems like a lifetime away) I had to ask about 1st trimester screening for abnormalities/Down's etc. He never brought it up. He made it sound like it was not necessary.

I'm 39 years old (which I would think is high risk) and he said I'm healthy and don't need it unless I plan to terminate the pregnancy (if there is an issue). I thought this was a pretty strong opinion on his part and was a bit irritating that I wasn't presented the option without asking. Is this odd? Did any of you have the 1st trimester screenings or is that unusual? I guess I just assumed it was a pretty common thing. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks. Theresa

Hi ladies . . . I'm from the May thread, but I like to lurk and see whatcha all are up to :D

T-West: I'm 17 weeks along . . . I had a nuchal test done at 11 weeks . . . they did a 4-d ultrasound and measured the baby's neck to check for Downs . . . they also did some blood work to test for trisomy and some other chromosomal defects . . . I go tomorrow for my second trimester blood screening called an AFP . . . that checks for the downs/trisomy, as well as spina bifida . . . I also have my 20 weeks ultrasound on the 21st . . . it's more on an anatomical survey . . .

So, yeah, it's kind of weird that your OB didn't mention any of that . . . there are more tests too . . . CVS, amniocentsis, etc. . . . my friend was 39 when she got pregnant and had an amnio just to be informed . . . I live in california, so maybe our state is more stringent about pre-natal testing . . .

good luck ladies :D

Hi Theresa, Congrats on your pregnancy! This is my 1st go at this so I'm not really familiar enough with whats normal or not, but I'll share my experience so far (I'm 9 weeks 5 days) and hopefully it helps. I went to my 1st OB appt at 8 weeks 2 days. I had an RN speak to me for about an hour and a half about my history and and overview of what happens over the next 9 months. She gave me a detailed schedule of what tests I'll need to go through during what timeframe. They did all the blood tests that day (took about 8-10 vials) and tested me several things including being genetic carriers for certain abnormalities/diseases, etc. They told me these blood tests are usually done b/w 8-10 weeks. Now, I'm supposed to go in at 10weeks 2days for a pelvic exam and an my 1st ob internal u/s (she said this is normally done b/w 10-12 weeks). Hope this helps and goodluck w/ everything!

t west At my OB prenatal screening is standard. They wanted me to do it and I'm 32. I did PGD, so most of that stuff was tested already pre IVF, so they have deteremined I son't need it. I am kinda surprised he would say that. I think even if you plan not to terminate, it is nice to know if there is a problem to expect. My DD was born with a heart defect that we did not no until after birth. With my second and now third pregnancy we do a fetal echocardiogram to check before birth. It helps to know.

Thanks for the feedback. I called back and schedule the screenings for next week. Still disappointed with the doctor approach to all of this but what are you going to do!

Frantically getting ready for the holidays. There just doesn't seem to be enough time!
