Hi everyone!
My 5 1/2 month old was sleeping through the night at 3-4 months. She would go to bed at 9, wake up for either a pacifier or an ounce or two from a bottle at 3:30 and then would sleep until 6:30. But she caught a nasty cold a few weeks ago with a heavy cough (which has now worked it's way into an ear infection) and that threw off her sleeping. She would wake up coughing several times a night and only her bottle would get her back to bed.
She's better now, no cough, and goes to bed around 9. But she wakes up at 1:30, 3:30, and 6 (and then she's up for the day) and typically is hungry each time. She's onto solid foods, eating big amounts during the day, taking a few 30 minute naps... but no matter what we do, we can't seem to knock out that 1:30 wake up. Any suggestions out there? I feel like she's definitely full when she goes to bed but I think we've gotten her into the habit of getting up to eat at night, or only her bottle will get her back to bed and I don't know how to break her of that.
Also - she sleeps in her pack & play in our bed room. We've had her in her crib in her own room, but when she was sick we were up so often that we just had her sleep there.
If you haven't already I would try putting cereal into her last bottle of the night. As soon as we did that ours sleeps up to 12 hours straight a night and she is only 3 1/2 months old.

Oh my....my dd is four years old and is still not sleeping through the night. She wakes up most nights two times. She is afraid of the dark so she insists the closet light AND the night light be on AND she wants her music. Plus she can't make it through the night without having to go to the bathroom. She has only slept through the night maybe 5 times total since the day she was born. I am hoping she eventually outgrows this
Thank you both for responding!
We decided to let her cry it out and switched her "overnight" bottles to just water. The first two nights were brutal but now, she goes to bed around 8:30 and wakes up at 3:30 and sometimes 5 but then will typically sleep until I have to wake her to go to daycare. Cross your fingers, though - I think she's starting to teethe so we'll see what happens!
For me, reducing her to just getting up once a night or twice at maximum has been heaven. Before it was just so often and she wanted to sleep with us or be fed that I felt like I never actually slept. So it's gotten better.
I for certain don't have all the answers, but my daughter is 9 months old and she just started sleeping through the night (wakes at 4am to play by herself) a month ago! My DD has had several colds and 4 double-ear infections, which I believe kept her from sleeping. I was feeding her a bottle at either 1:30 or 3:30 every night, but my pedi told me to stop around 6 1/2 months, so I started giving her water. It seemed to work and she quit waking up so often. She sleeps from 7pm-7am, but still wakes at 4am every single morning, plays in her bed for about 20-30 minutes, then goes back to sleep. I suggest doing the water thing, offering no milk, and give it a little more time. Teething for sure doesn't help, we're going through that as well If I know she's cutting a tooth, I give her Tylenol for a couple of nights, right before bed. That also seems to help.
