Question regarding spotting (after +ve blood tests )

Post by DMOYER »

Hi Everyone!

I have been off this week and have been on spring break here in NJ. I have been resting most of the week due to the rain that we had here. Anyhow, on April 5 I had my beta test 11 days after a 3 day transfer and my numbers were 233. (YEAH I am finally pregnant after 3 years of ttc, laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, 2 failed IUIs, and a -ve ICSI cycle in Dec.) Two days later on the 7th my beta results were 461. Everything seemed to be doing well, so my doctor did not want to see me until Monday, the 19 for an ultrasound.

In the meantime, yesterday afternoon I noticed blood on the tp. Not a lot, but enough for me to be concerned. I called the doctor and they said to just rest, put my feet up, etc. (My dh said that it was impossible for me to rest any more and if I did, I would be dead. - He is the humorous one.) So I rested all day yesterday, then last night I had more "spotting". It was a tad red, and once again, just on the tp.

This morning it was brown, and now there is really nothing. I called my clinic again and they said they would not even consider it spotting as it is not that often. They told me to relax, like yesterday, and that it would not be necessary to come to the office because they won't be able to see a heartbeat just yet anyway. (I go on Monday for the ultrasound.)

Has this happened to anyone else? I am just so concerned as we finally got a +ve. The waiting is driving me mad. (But not too mad that it's harmful.)

I have been reading online that some "spotting" can be due to the placenta attaching to the uterus. (I already had the implantation bleeding three weeks ago, so it is definitely not that.) Also I read that it could be the extra blood flow to the cervix which sometimes "spills out". Can anyone else help - or reassure me?????

Thanks so much! And staying positive :) :)

Hi Denise,

Firstly, CONGRATULATIONS! :D

The 'bleeding' is very common and could be lots of things. I had lots of bleeding (brown, red, clots) up until week 14 and then twice after, and here I am now, typing with one hand as the gorgeous 10 wk old Sam is sleeping in my other arm!! The reasons for bleeding - who knows I'm afraid, it could be one of many. It could still be related to implantation bleeding - in my case it was to do with that in terms of the there was slight pulling away they think that caused bruising - apparently this is very common, but in most cases the blood gets absorbed naturally back into the body, but in my case it just came out. Later bleeding was a cervical abrasion, again very common. Would it be around the time of your period? If so, it could be that. I was also told that if there was twins (I was originally told that was a possibility with a number of 209!) the the uterus can be even more sensitive and bleed a little...In any case, I know it's hard not to worry, but lots of people do get bleeding and everything is fine so try and chill out more (never mind your cheeky husband :D  ) and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!!!

Take care

Hi Zoe,

Thanks for your words of encouragement!!! I am relieved that others have been through this and have had positive results. Congratulations on the birth of your baby, Sam! This definitely gives me something to keep my chin up for. Yes, my doctor suspects twins, but will not know until the ultrasound on Monday.

You really put more of a positive outlook on the next three days of waiting! :D :D

Thanks again,
Love,
Denise

Hiya

Just wanted to say I had brown (like before period starts), from 3 days b4 test date to 5 days afterwards. I was convinced period was coming, wasnt even going to test. But then DH said "well, whats £10, out of £3,000 what weve spent on this cycle" so I went & bought one and did it. Was shellshocked to see 2 lines, & am 6 weeks and 1 day pregnant today. Scan on Weds, scared but excited!

Try not too worry. My nurse told me it was the embie borrowing in!!!!

Hi Denise,
Just wanted to say don't worry, easier said than done I know very well, as I've had not just spotting but bright red bleeding 2 times now in my pregnancy, one time for more than a week and recently at week 13 for about 3 days. yet my twins are so far hanging in there and the doctors keep saying this happens and as long as it does not get too much, you should try to be calm. i wasn't, but the girls on this site reassured me a lot! so good luck and will keep my fingers crossed for your scan.
best wishes,
juliana

Thanks Everyone for your positive thoughts!!! I have not posted since our ultrasound on Monday and the news is..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
WE HAVE THREE HEARTBEATS!!! I CANNOT BELIEVE IT. WE TRANSFERRED FOUR, TWO IMPLANTED AND ONE SPLIT. THERE IS A CONCERN AS THE TWO (IDENTICAL) TWINS ARE IN ONE PLACENTA AND MY DOCTOR WAS LOOKING FOR A MEMBRANE THAT WOULD SEPARATE THEM SO THEY GET THEIR OWN FOOD, ETC. BEING THAT I AM ONLY 6 WEEKS, IT MAY BE TOO SOON TO SEE THIS. I HAVE TO GO TO A PERI AND HAVE ANOTHER ULTRASOUND NEXT WEEK. I WILL KEEP YOU ALL POSTED AS I WILL LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR SUPPORT!

LOVE,
DENISE

Thank you Dagny and Phil for the good wishes! I have a lot of faith and believe in staying positive. I have to get to a peri right away. There is a concern with the twins (they call them momo's) especially with the cords. I am hopeful!
