Failed IVF...first time

Post by shermy19 »

I just got the results from my first IVF...BFN  Needless to say, I am very disappointed and depressed. What normally happens now? Do I wait a month and let my body recover? I couldn't even talk to the doctor today because I was so upset. I would like to be hopeful that eventually this will work, but I am finding it difficult to be positive. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Hi shermy19,

I had my 1st IVF 5/09....BFN, and yes I totally understand how you feel. I still feel very sad 6 months later. I'm on a waiting list for my 2nd attempt since we moved to another state last month. I'm pretty sure you can attempt IVF again in a few months. I chose to take some time off, because I didn't feel ready to do it again right away not to mention needed to save more $$. Just know you aren't alone, I totally understand! My girlfriends didn't understand at all and we ended up not talking anymore after my IVF. If you ever wanna talk, I would love to :D

Thank you so much! It's nice to know that there are other people out there who understand. You want to believe it will work and when it doesn't, you feel so hopleless. I've wanted to be a mom my whole life and I feel like time is running out (I'm almost 38). I will try again, but mentally, it is so hard to prepare for this. I hope you are able to try again and that you are successful. And yes, it is very frustrating when friends do not understand. It is her loss! Good luck and try to keep the faith ( I will as well).

Hi shermy
I am so sorry to hear your BFN. I had my first cycle in end Sept/ early Oct which also finished as a BFN. I had to take a month off, then started a month-long treatment for a FET cycle, and our transfer was 12/21, so almost 2 months to the day from our first cycle beta. Not sure if it would be different for a fresh cycle. The first cycle is the hardest, b/c you don't really know what to expect. In my case, I am much more at peace this time around (my beta is tomorrow). Hope you can hop right back on the rollercoaster.

My first IVF was a BFN also. I was able to start my FET cycle as soon as my AF showed up after the negative blood test. I am not sure how soon you can start a fresh cycle after, I would assume with a fresh cycle it might be better if you take a month off. Good luck and many blessings to you!

Hi
So sorry to hear your cycle was BFN in news, I know how heartbreaking it is. My first cycle ended the same earlier this year. My RE recommended to have a break of 3 months and start down reg with 3rd period after negative, but I was doing a fresh cycle. As it happened I only had one af before we started as I did not get my 2nd period and was given tablets to start this after about 4 weeks or so and started down reg with bcp straight after this.

The second cycle felt different all the way I think mainly because I was more relaxed and more realistic. Happily I am now 26weeks pregnant with a lovely little boy

Good luck with your next step, keep the faith.

So I talked to the RE today. I will start birth control on Tursday and Lupron on Jan. 14. I will then call on the first day of my next cycle. I guess I need to take a month off. I have not taken birth control in so long! Trying to stay positive!

Sherm19 - I also had a BFN in Sept of this year :( I did do an FET in Nov and got a BFP which did result in a chemical  Of course I already had told everyone I knew I was pregnant, which was hard to tell everyone again that we lost the pregnancy. I have lost 2 other pregnancies before, so I knew it would upset me for awhile but in time it does get better. In some ways I was less upset cause I knew I was pregnant, first time in 2 years of trying :D I feel there is hope now,but still am sad @ times, especially over the holidays. Every cycle is different and a learning experience even to the RE on how your body responds. I LOVED the FET it was soooooo easy compared to the IVF cycle. I went to the RE 3 times for the cycle. I was sooooo less stressed I wish I had more frosties but I don't and have to do a fresh cycle which I hate :x I was very :( after my BFN it felt almost as bed as a miscarriage for me. I had transferred 2 blastocysts and thought it was in the bag, especially since I have a DD already and had been preggo 3 times before. In time it will get easier.Good luck with everything.
