Cold medicines anyone?

Post by sharishu »

Hi! I'm 5 weeks 3 days pregnant, and was wondering if anyone out there had a cold and asked their doc which medicines are okay to take. I read on babycenter that Tylenol PM is okay, but wanted to know if anyone asked their doctor about the drug in EARLY pregnancy. I SOOO want to take it tonight, especially since I will be sleeping in the room with my baby at my in-laws, and will need all help sleeping with my very stuffy nose :( . Help!

Thanks!

Shari

Tylenol PM is fine - I have a whole list of approved over the counter meds from my RE at home, but I'm not there to look at it right now. I am just hitting 15 weeks and have taken it at night periodically for my aching back! Also, allergy meds, such as Claritin D, Zyrtec D are fine. So is sudafed, but ONLY get the original kind that you have to buy behind the counter, not the PE products that are on the shelf now. I tried to stay mostly off of anything during the first trimester, but my allergies started getting bad and I had to go back to taking Claritin D - it was either that or I was going to end up with a sinus infection and on antibiotics, which I really did not want to do.

get a neti pot ! I swear by them.

they are Awesome for flushing out your head/sinus.

i use them when i have allergies, but not that im prego it do it alot.

you can use table salt & water, but i suggest the little saline packets they give you to use.

but you must you some type of salt solution or it will BURN your nose!

I second the neti pot! I love mine. Takes a few times to get used to it and into the right position, but once you get it down it is a big help.
