We find out the sex around Valentine's Day. It should be a boy (we put in a male embie), but I don't trust anything. I'm for sure not giving away all the girl clothes I have until I know for sure!

We should have went the male embie route! I have 3 girls from a previous marriage. During our last two sonograms two different nurses told us "looks like another girl". I know it is still early but at the last one the nurse said she was about 80% sure it was a girl. My husband seems a bit disappointed, I would have like to experience a boy, but at this point I am still hoping for healthy. We go back on Jan. 18th for another sono, so maybe we will get a definate then???? My 3 girls are "hoping" for another girl.

No one knows we did IVF so we have to act like we don't know what it is going to be. My 2 girls want a boy. They fight over who has to be the boy when they dance withDancing With the Starts, so they want a boy to dance with. I don't think they realize it will take years before that could happen and that show probably won't be around at that time, but that's what they want.

I am a little late but "Welcome to the 2nd Trimester Ladies", I am so thrilled to have gotten here. Hoping for smooth sailing for all of us from here on out.
Lisa - too funny on the Dancing with the Stars partner!
Kala - how are things going, any results back from your testing?
Anyone working outside of the home and checking into daycare facilities yet? The company I work for only gives 6 weeks paid for maternity leave, I always managed 12 weeks with my other kids and would really LOVE to do 6 months with this one, not sure Hubby will go for this because of finances, but sure would be nice! Lisa I know you are doing daycare in your home so that will be a great situation for you! I have called a couple of daycare facilities to get information and both places I called have a waiting list almost 8 months long! Average cost here for a daycare facility is $250 a week for babies. I do not know any in home care providers.
What are others doing?

The genetic testing came back negative! Yay! I pray all continues to go well for my pregnancy and all of yours!
About daycare, since DH is a professional skiier...we are hoping to get the baby into the daycare at the resort. It is $30/day and they allow a flexible schedule. All my other teacher friends have to pay all summer to keep their kids in. I would just have to pay the days my baby goes. Also DH can take him or her in with him while he trains. So, this will also mean I can work full time. It shouldnt be too bad cuz we only go to school 4 days/week in my district.
About leave, I was told they would only hold my job for 12 weeks and that is all unpaid. So Im hoping to go back after Thanksgiving.

Iamhopeful...Where do you live? I do run a group daycare home out of my house with an assistant. We watch 12 kids. We are in the northern suburbs of Chicago. We charge $200 a week for infants, which is about standard here for homes. Centers are about $250-300 per week for infants. I have worked at daycare centers in the past, not worth the extra money to me, but I saw no problem with the care or attention the babies were given. I have had parents come to me in tears after pulling their babies out of centers because it didn't feel right to them. So you have to go with what feels best for you. Some people prefer centers and trust them more, some trust a home daycare more. A draw back of home daycare is they may close for illess or vacations and you will not have care then, while centers are always open.
Around me there are companies that provide lists to perspective parents of home daycare providers. Try asking around, maybe you can find something like that by you. Also we list openings on Craigslist and have gotten many children that way. There are various websites like Sittercity that can help you with that. Word of mouth is best. Ask any parents you know. most of our business is by referals. When you call an at home provider, they can often suggest other providers if they don't have room for you. Providers are a small circle and we also know if others have openings, if there are other great providers out there, or if something shady is going on at a providers house.
When interviewing, I suggest you meet with the provider first in the evening, when they have time to talk. However go back if you are interested during the day when children are present to see how things run and the children who are there.
I am taking 4 weeks off, but I will still be with my baby full time when I go back so my case is different. I will be closing my daycare for a week, then a sub will be filling in for me for 3 weeks, but the kids will be here.
Kala, you have it great with pay as you go. We too charge to hold spaces over the summer and breaks for teachers, but some home providers I know do not and only care for teachers' children. We also require payment for set days whether or not the child attends. So you are going to save big time.

Kala, thats great about your negative test results with the screening! I am a little nervous about it still. And I dont get to have another US until Feb 3rd week to find the gender of the baby!! And you really are getting a good deal with the day care. My sister is looking into day care for my nephew and like Lisa says, you get charged even if you are taking them out for a vacation.
Lisa, you must run a good home day care. My 1.5 year old nephew has been in a home day care for the last week and is just not liking it - he wakes up with nightmares and refuses to step out of the house now, poor fellow. My sister gets to see him on a video and is really bothered that nobody there seems to give him any attention. He goes and stands by the door with his toy and they dont engage him or anything. I dont know if its their strategy but its hearbreaking for her to watch and see how upset he gets at everything.
Iamhopeful, I also get only 6 weeks of paid leave apparently which is such a bogus! I might just quit work depending on how things go. My DH is all for me quitting since we have tried for so long to have kids and we want to give our best care and attention but I am concerned that after a couple of year's break, I wont be able to get back to my field of work.
We go back for our next sono on Feb.5th - we should be able to confirm the gender then, but we all still have the feeling it is another girl. Like I said before, I am hoping for healthy.
We have not started making any baby purchases yet, I think I am waiting for the next sono just to confirm things are still looking good, we also have a fetal echocardiogram to check for heart defects at 22 weeks. I have been doing some research on baby items and reading tons of reviews on products. I have started a list of what we will need. Since there is 10 years in between my youngest and this baby we have nothing and I will be starting over.
We did get a crib and dresser/changing table from my sister in law that they just finished with. The crib is a drop side crib but can't find the brand or model number on the recall list of all the drop side cribs that have been recalled. Any thoughts on this?
Anyone gaining any weight yet, or having any belly swelling going on? I have actually had a couple of people ask me if I am expecting and more people asking my friends if I am expecting, so I guess I am starting to look a bit preggo. Not much weight gain though since I am on the gestational diabetes diet...which sucks! I just want a BROWNIE!

It's a teacher workday...cant ya'll tell Im procrastinating from doing report cards!?!
Iamhopeful-That is exciting you are starting to show! I am too! But I only gained 2 lbs since I got pregnant. It is so hard to eat when you are throwing up morning and/or evenings. My doctor wants me to gain a lb/week so Im trying to eat more.
I did my whole registry when I was 7 weeks pregnant online. As soon as DH find out the sex, we will add a few more things in person like crib and stroller...oh and delete the boy or girl bedding! I cant wait to go shopping! I wish the 5th would get here now!
