Has anyone been on Dexamethasone...Can't sleep at night?

Post by sakooooot »

I have been taking one pill of dexamethasone every day since I started my stims and I am still on it even after the transfer which was on 1/4. I think this medicine keeps me from sleeping well at night. I have literally developd insomnia. Did any of you ever use it before or after transfer? I have endo and maybe that's why my RE put me on it. I was also on Medrol but not anymore. Any similar experiences please? What should I do about not being able to sleep? I worry that not getting enough sleep might affect implantation. Please help. Thanks.

Sak - What dosage does the dr have you on? I was on it last cycle from Day 6 of stims till we heard the baby's heartbeat. I took 0.05mg a day. A very very low dose. I will say I did have some nights I got up and couldn't sleep, but I was pg (didn't know it yet) and was very hungry and I think that's why I couldn't sleep. But I have heard and read it can give you insomnia.

I'm not sure what you can do for sleep when it's the meds that are doing it to you. Sorry you're going through this. ((HUGS))

sakooooot: I too was on Dexa.... and couldn't sleep the whole time. The pharmacist didn't mention that side affect the first time around, but did the second and it all clicked. I thought I was just stressed. I took it this time and I'm 6 weeks tomorrow, so I don't think the sleeping will have too much of an effect on implantation.

Thank you ladies. Your replies gave me a bit of relief. Any reason why they put us on it? I read somewhere that it is to prevent your immune system from attacking the embies. I am also on a very low dose of 0.5 mg..btw congrats to both of you on your recent bfps :)

Sak - Yes, you are correct about it helping with preventing your immune system from fighting off the embies. 0.05mg is the norm I guess. I hope you get your BFP!!

BRMommy2B - Congrats again! I didn't know you took Dex too. I really didn't like the ideal of being on it till we saw the heartbeat. Are you still on it now?

I m/c at 6w3d. My beta today is only at 191 so I'm not even at baseline yet. I hate being reminded everytime that I still have pregnancy hormones from my baby.

We'll be trying again whenever AF decides to show up in 4-6 weeks or who knows how long. I hope at least to be on BCP's by the end of Feb beginning of March.

Lorrie: I took doxy for 8 days, while on BCP, and then I think I took it for the 4 days following my transfer. Since transfer, I take baby asprin (have taken it in for the past 3 or so months with no break, helps with implantation and blood flow, although Ghost says it's not proven), Endometrin (3x/day), Vivelle (2 patches every other day), and prenatal vitamins. I had an FET this time, which had a very different medicinal "cocktail" than my fresh cycle.

I have been on dex and it can cause insomnia. On really bad nights I will take 1 Tylenol Pm and it will help. Like PP said you can take benadryl. Benadryl is the ingredient in Tylenol Pm and all the other sleep aids.

From what I have heard the dex is to help for immune stuff.

Good Luck.

Hello! I had insomnia with Dexamethasone. Then my Dr. told me to take it first thing in the AM. That cured my insomnia. Hope this helps you too. :D

It made me effing crazy!! Not only did I sleep like 2 hours/night, but I would wake up and bake and shit. My husband enjoyed it at first and then got super weirded out and worried. Definitely take it in the morning, but brace yourself cause it could be a wild ride.

I actually got out of bed in the middle of the night to have an Oatmeal Cream Pie...NEVER gotten out of bed in the middle of the night to EAT anything. I've definately gained weight...to the point that I weigh more now than I ever have. Looking forward to getting back to normal.
