I browsed a little, but could not find a recent post to add to..So I started my own.
I hit a wall today. HARD. I had been on clould 9 having comfortably, decisively reached the decision to become a single mom. So much research, so much planning and thinking through things. Never did I imagine to have a doctor pretty much tell me that my only real chance iof becoming a mother is through donor egg or adoption.
My basal follicle count was a total of 7. I had the clomid challenge with FSH levels of 17.5 and 6.3. My AMH level was 0.2. BTW, I am 38 years old.
Has anyone else had these extremely discouraging results but continued to try with their own eggs anyway? Any success? What drugs or procedures have your doctors recommended?
I had a long list of questions lined up for the doctor, in anticipation of hearing something very differently, but I kind of zoned out and felt most of my questions were no longer relevant. He might as well had been Charlie Brown's teacher talking to me after about 3 minutes.
I am going to another doctor; one that is in my insurance network. I want to move forward and try with my own eggs. Honestly, do you think I would be wasting time and money? Do you think I am setting myself up for one big disppointment after another?
Again, I was doing this to be a single mom. Already, I would not have known the donor father, but I would have been able to look at that child and see ME in the child. I would have been able to explain some characteristics, traits, interests, aptitudes, etc... because of knowing ME. This is so hard to swallow.
hi babyjazz - so sorry to hear about the bad news from your RE. you would probably get more answers if you moved to the IVF board, there is a lot of activity there, many with low ovarian reserves, and some are getting pregnant with their own eggs. there are a couple ladies on the nov/dec thread with a similar situation to yours, and they recently discussed how some REs are really good with low ovarian reserves and others don't want to touch it b/c it may mess up their stats, so it's definitely worth researching more before giving up. i don't understand the stats too well but you should ask ghost to help you decipher to understand how bad/ not so bad it is ghost is not an RE but seems to know pretty much everything about IVF/ fertility, and hangs out more on the IVF thread than in the other sections. don't give up hope, the IVF journey is all ups & downs but it's all worth it at the end.

Thanks, Julia. I sent my first RE's notes to the second RE I was planning to see in January. What was I thinking!!! One of his staff called to tell me that this RE is in agreement with the first. That set me off again as if I was hearing it for the first time. I moved my appt. up to next week. Similar to the first RE, he said he would work with me. I guess it's my time and money to spend as I like. I noticed you're in NC. That's where I am headed for this next appt.
Do RE's ever turn people away? I read the book Inconceivable (in one sitting). She kept being turned away, but she was 42 Years old with 42 FSH. But what she experienced makes me wonder if some facilities have a cutoff and I wonder if I fall just short of that cutoff. I also wonder if my 0.2 AMH is the driving factor. Oh well, I will keep moving forward. I have to try.
hi my amh was 0.25 and im prego with twins 9 weeks!
first try! and my afc i only had 9, but my fsh was always under 8 & 6 after ctt.
there is hope, but also age is a factor too. im only 33 going to be 34 when i deliver. you're numbers are NOT that bad. but you will prob need the higest of stim meds and such! if your RE turns you away for those numbers, you shouldnt be at that doctor in the first place!
28 days after getting my FSH results, AMH results, and the donor egg speech...I have a postive beta HCG at 10 days BPO. Just four days ago I had blood drawn for progesterone because the RE suspected I was not even ovulating despite my very regular periods and despite having no other evidence as I am single and have not been trying to get pregnant before now. He called me today to give me the good news that I was indeed ovulating and I had to interrupt him and tell him that I thought I was pregnant due to HPT results! He ordered the beta HCG immediately.
I am trying not to get my hopes up too high. With those numbers, this early, the RE's feelings, my age, and the fact that it's my first pregnancy...who knows what my real situation is but right now I'm elated and I have REAL hope.
Natural BD, a very low dosage estrogen patch, first attempt (with a friend who was willing to be a sperm donor), first time using OPKs and charting BBT... Imagine that!
What an incredible story and I am so excited for you! Please continue to post so we can all share in your joy
I think stories like your's are the miracle stories we look for. Infertility is such a difficult road and to read these great posts really makes me smile. I have followed many posts for the last two years; we have been blessed with two children; the most recent born through IVF in June 09.
My prayers are with you and best of luck!

One son, 9 years old and beautiful, born 2001; 1st IVF (mid 2005): BFN; 2nd IVF (late 2005): BFN; 3rd IVF (10/08): BFP!!!! Beta 1 (10/30/08): 452; Beta 2 (11/04/08): 4094. Daughter born 06/28/09--we are truly blessed!
Well, I am 7w1d today. I had my first ultrasound on Monday at 6w5d. Everything looked good. Little bean was actually measuring at 7w1d and had a heart beat of 146 bpm. My next appt. is March 2nd. My symptons have been very slight. A little breast tenderness, a little constipation, and dry mouth. Absolutely no nausea so far. My mom never was sick with either of her 6 pregnancies so maybe I take after her
So happy to hear that all is progressing well. You are already blessed. Hope any nausea is kept to a min--I went for weeks feeling like I could throw up at any time--yuck!
Keep us updated!
