Mommieof2 - Oh no! Sorry to hear about the m/s. I have felt icky for the past week or two and had bad stomach cramps and nausea. Thankfully no vomiting thought. Yesterday it was super bad but its so hard to know what medicine is ok and which isnt. My RE just prescribed this thing called a "prima bella band" which is supposed to hit nerve points in your wrist and make you feel better. Dont know if it will work but worth the try. I should get it tomorrow from my pharmacy.

I hope you feel better soon!

Hi ladies. I hope I am out of the m/s phase. Actually had a good appetite today and am trying to gain like 5 lbs this week before my next high risk apt on Feb 1 since I have not gained ANY weight yet. I had my first trimester screening this week and the results show I tested positive for MTHR which causes blood clots in the placenta. I started injections of Lovenox this week. I don't think i was tested for this when I was PG with my DD and I was told after she was born at 26 weeks the placenta was one big GIANT bloodclot, so I am lucky they caught it this time! The shots are SubQ but hurt, burn and bruise:( I hope this helps prevent premature birth of these little ones.

I have a Q for you guys...So only my closest friends know we do IVF to have a baby. It is not something I share too much. Anyways, this time we only told like 2 people it is TWINS and a few other family members that know I do IVF have asked if I am PG with 1 or 2. We just decided to not tell it was twins and thought everyone will be surprised (as well as we don't find out the sexes of the babies). It isn't a question I want to answer and I don't know how to respond. I keep saying "I dunno yet" which is a total lie and obviously at this point they know I know. Any suggestions?

sorry to crash just saw your post rikrees about what you were to tell people about twins!

The only people that know we did IVF are my parents - so we had the same dilemma - there are twins in DH family last generation though - but loads of people told me that as you get older (i can use the excuse as am 41!) some months you ovulate and others you don't - but quite often if you miss a month the following month your body will release 2/3 egs hence the higher number of natural twins in older mothers - I have also researched this and there is quite a bit to back it up - so we just say - was greedy and obviously meant to be and that as older higher chance!

Hope this may help

Good luck ladies for trouble free twin pregnancies xxx

Hi Rikirees,
I am in the same boat as you, only people close to me know that I did IVF. Let me point out that i'm not ashamed of doing it, but some people are just so ignorant about it and say stupid things, that I decided that it's in my best interest to get worked up about what other people think. Most people ask if twins run in my family, only a few people have asked if I have done IVF (which I think is the rudest if I do not know them!). I just lie and say "yes they run on my mother's side of the family" and that's that. I don't understand that question anyway, it's like unless it's hereditary or IVF, is there no other explanation for twins? I'm sorry to go off on a rampage about this, but I'm just so surprised at how nosy people are about my personal life. Like, to me, that question is as personal as asking someone who didn't have IVF "what position were you in when you conceived?". So anyway, my advice to you is to start saying something because they're all going to ask eventually anyway and you'll have to answer them sooner or later, so just come up with something and stick to it! I have found that most people, regardless of whether or not they ask the question, are thrilled to find out that it's twins!

Ladies (including Wishfull!!!)- I'm almost 25 weeks and over the weekend I just felt off. I've been having some feelings of pressure and lower back pain, like AF is coming and also a feeling that I can't really explain, but the closest I can get to it is throbbing in my cervix. I was borderline about going to the hospital, but didn't end up going because I have a doctor's appointment tonight. I've never had a baby before and I just don't know what signals to look for and I think maybe i'm just being paranoid. Maybe i'm just getting to the point in my pregnancy where things are just starting to become uncomfortable? What do you guys think?

JG - would def mention to doctor _ did not start to feel pressure until around week 32 - compared to others though I have been blessed with a relatively trouble free pregnancy - maybe just the way the babies are now lying but def mention to doctor if only to put your mind at rest ... nothing worse than worrying about it as it only makes things seem worse

keep us posted xx

I went today for my 1st trimester scan and for the first time, the doc was happy how everything is going. The babies looked great and everything is measuring right at 13 weeks. They are going to be monitoring me very closely. Cervical checks every 2 weeks until 24 weeks and then weekly checks to look at my c section scar to make sure it isnt pulling open. They are also going to restart PIO at 18 weeks to prevent preterm labor. And the steriod shot to mature the babies lungs at 26 weeks. I also have to order a medical alert system in case I start to bleed out and I need emergency help, because of the blood thinners I am on. All stuff I can handle. All in all a good appointment. PHEWWWW!

Rikirees- Thats great that you had a good appointment. Sounds like your Dr. is really on top of things for you and doing everything to assure you have healthy babies and a healthy mom! I was just telling my DH about your story today so I am happy to hear things are going well. (My Dr. said today that he thought our babies might be identical instead of the fraternal that we were sure of, hence where the egg-splitting conversation and your story came up)

AFM-Lonnnnnnng week!! Possibly the longest soo far... I received the results from my second trimester screening last Monday and they were abnormal. Showed a high risk for down syndrome :(. So my OB refers me to a High Risk specialist and pretty much says nothing else. After a long week of restless night and more tears than I would of liked to have shed I had my appt. today with the high risk dr. My u/s showed two healthy babies and no signs of downs. Although this is not fool proof method of detection I declined the amnio cause I'm having my babies regardless and know in my heart they are perfect! So once we finally breathe for the first time in a week, the Dr. asked me if anyone has told me for sure that both embryo's implanted because it looks like they might be identicals. My OB has asked me this as well, but I was like umm obviously they did. Thinking back, my RE never said. It was just, "oh, your pregnant with twins, go get an OB, bye". So, we were like well lets check the genders and see if that helps and it didn't as we now know we are having two little boys :D I am soo happy all went well for me today and look forward to going back to the high risk Dr. in a month to get this fraternal vs. identical thing figured out.

I hope everyone is enjoying their pregnancies and that all the babies are growing happy and healthy!!

I forgot to mention the interesting part about my apt on Monday...
The Hi risk doc is very strongly implying that my twins are NOT identical. Apparently spliting of an egg into 2 separate sacs after day 5 is not very common. Which seems IMPOSSIBLE since I only put in one embryo. The only way these kids are not identical is if 1. the clinic put in more than one which seems highly unlikely, right? 2. since it was an FET cycle my ovaries were not suppressed and I ovulated and got pregnant on day 1 (the day the frosties were thawed) (yes we had "special time" then) which makes these 2 kids the EXACT same age, since they are both measuring the same GA and size. Since we don't want to know the sex or sexes I guess we may not know for sure until birth!! How weird is that?!?!?!

I had an appointment with my OB today and found out that Baby A is a GIRL!!!! They could not tell about Baby B because it apparently didn't want to cooperate, but the u/s lady thinks it may be a girl also. We will have another appt and u/s in 2 weeks. Maybe we will know for sure then.

Hi Laides, lurker here just wanted to congratulate you all on being future twin mummies, it is wonderful.

Rikerees, I would be inclined to let people know its twins as you will be quite large at the end and may need help as the pregnancy progresses. Just to let you know as you already have a singleton it is very common to get twins second time around, at our twins club there are more natural twins than ivf, and 4 families have older siblings.

Well, I went to the doctor on Friday and I had protein in my urine. Since I had such a severe case of pre-eclampsia and pulmonary edema with my first set of twins, they are very concerned about this. Protein in the urine is one of the first signs of pre-eclampsia, and since I am only 20 weeks, the babies would not be viable if they had to be taken at this early stage. I have been taken out of work and told to relax as much as possible, but I am not on bedrest.

I am hoping that I can make it to at least 29 weeks, but that will all depend on my body, I guess. I am trying to stay positive and think that we have caught it early enough that we can slow down the progression, but I am still very worried about losing my babies due to early delivery.

I hope everyone else is doing well and not facing the same issue.

Bjones- Oh no! I am so sorry sweetie. Pre-E so early... I am sure you must be very nervous. Being the mother of a 26 weeker born under 1lb (and a NICU survivor for 4 months) I can imagine your anxiety level is a little elevated. Just really try to take things easy and we will hope and pray for the best for you. PLEASE ask your doc to give you the steriod injection to mature the babies lungs at exactly 24 weeks (they won't give it you until "viability"). It is was saved my daughters life. She was still on a vent for 4 weeks but now has a very healthy set of lungs, compared to other preemies.

I have to ask how all the other twins mommies are growing. Believe me I do not want to be HUGE (in fact it is a fear of mine getting too big) but at 16 weeks I am still in normal clothes- elastic pants though. I have a bump but it is in that "awkward" bump or did she just get fat stage. After having such a small baby the first time, I am a littl eobbseed about it and I still havent gained ANY weight. Not lost any either but no gain, no matter how hard I am trying to eat eat eat. I go to the Hi-risk OB on Friday.

rikirees-Thank you for the support. My twin boys were born at 29.5 weeks after the steroid shots earlier that week, and they are fine now. They had a rough start and were in the hospital for 1 month. It is reassuring to know that your daughter is doing well after such an early birth. I just wish that the next 6 weeks would hurry up and be over already.

I am huge. I have only gained 4 pounds, but I am having a hard time finding maternity clothes that will go around my belly. It is probably due to the previous twin pregnancy. I have always heard that the second pregnancy shows sooner than the first, and since I was HUGE the first time, I guess that means that I will be HUGE this time.

I was really swollen from the injections from IVF, so I have been in maternity clothes since about 10 weeks.

This thread has been really quiet so I thought I would post and bring us back to the top again :)

I'm also wondering how many twin mommies have had their gestational diabetes testing yet and how that went. Mine did not go well! Failed the one hour and when I went to take the 3 hour my blood sugar was too high, even after a 12 hour fast, for them to administer me the test. I guess the good news is that I didn't have to take the 3 hour, but the bad news is that I have GD. I have an appt. Monday to go over diet plans and hope to control it that way and not need medication. I hear that it's a lot more common in a multiples pregnancy to have GD?

Other than the GD info, I am feeling great and enjoying putting the fnishing touches on the nursery. Soo fun to wash the baby clothes that I have and organize the closet. Looking forward to baby shower time! I have one on April 10 with my girlfriends and then my mom is throwing me one for mostly family members on May 1. I insisted on having the second one at my house so that everything is already here and I dont have to move it over! Let alone have to move myself anywhere!

I hope all is well for everyone, I would love to hear some updates!

Blessings all around!!

Hello - I jsut found out i am prego with twins. Im 6 weeks and nervous but excited. We currently have a 1 year so i think we are going to be in for a wild ride and REALLY broke soon!! I wanted to ask you ladies about the chances of miscarriage with twins. My dr was very serious when she said i was having twins and that the miscarriage rate is higher throughoout the pregnancy. It made me really nervous. She didnt give me any stats. What have you heard from your drs?
