I got a call this morning that I will be doing a 5 day transfer. At first I was really excited, but then I started to wonder what percentage of embies that make it from day 3 to day 5 on average. I can't seem to find this anywhere.
Anyone know this? Or have your own information to share? Just curious.
They wouldn't tell you they are doing a 5-day transfer unless you had a good amount fertilize to begin with. While I don't know the stats, I'm pretty sure I was told by my doctor that it is a higher percentage that make it. I had 8 fertilize out of 14 eggs retrieved, and 4 made it to day 5. Keep us posted!

I don't know the proportion. The question is what proportion of day 3 embryos with a given number of cells (say, 8 cells) are still developing on day 5?
I believe most of those with 8 or more cells on day 3 are still developing on day 5. The proportion probably declines steadily with cell number, so that those with just a few cells on day 3 are unlikely to still be developing on day 5.
Avoid IVF and surrogacy in Ukraine. Ukrainian centers pay shills to post here under numerous sock accounts pretending to be patients in Ukraine. Centers using such deceptive advertising cannot be trusted and should be avoided.
I had 12 x mature eggs --> 9 x fertilized --> 8 x 3-day embies, but I forgot to ask what they looked like. I guess right now it is what it is whatever it is and I'll just hope it all works out in the end.
Hi. I don't know the details either, but for me I had:
9 mature eggs
7 fertilized
1 fertilized late
8 made it to day 3
8 made it to day 4
the late fertilized one died on its day 4 equivilient
7 made it to day 5

Sounds like good numbers, I hope you get your bfp and the 2ww isn't too bad!
I had 12 eggs, 11 mature eggs, all fertilized. Initially they said 3 made it to day 5 but later that day they said 6 had made it. We transferred 1 and I am 31 weeks pregnant.
Good luck!

My understanding of a 5 day transfer is something called a blastocyst. If you have enough fertilized eggs and they are all developing well (at least 8 cells) They will often go past day 3 and wait until day 5 for transfer. Here is a link with info on blastocyst. http://www.advancedfertility.com/blastocystimages.htm
From what I understand, blastocyst is often an option for those wanting a single pregnancy as the success rate is better.
I am not an expert. In my experience, I have only ever made it to day 3. 1st attempt was a BFP, Second attempt BFN, and now in the middle of my 2ww.
Hope the info helps. I think it is a positive to have good healthy embryos that make it to day 5. Wish you lots of luck!!
