Hi Susan

We had our first scan at 5 1/2 weeks and no heartbeat could be seen. The nurse thought that she could see two sacs fleetingly but then couldn't find one again so was convinced that it was just a shadow. Two weeks later we went back and saw a clear heartbeat ... and then another clear heartbeat. So there was a significant difference between what could be seen on the two scans. (I can just hear the 2 owners of those heartbeats giggling in front of the TV so we certainly had a successful ending!)

Try not to worry to much (easier said that done).

susan,

it's not always possible to see the heartbeat at the 1st scan. mine didn't but it was a very early scan though like yours. my 2nd scan was at 7 weeks and by then we could see and hear the heartbeat.

i think that mostly scans are at 6 - 8 weeks. you'll be amazed by the changes in just a few weeks.

hi susan,

yes these are both good signs. i didn't feel tiredness in early months and was panicky as a lot of people and the books told me to expect it so i suppose we're all different in some ways.

best wishes for your next scan. i'll be away but look forward to catching your update when i'm back.

Hi Susan

I was told that you don't always see the heart beat in the first scan. I had mine at 5 weeks 6 days and we did but they were surprised as it was so early. My friend didn't see her twins heartbeats until 7 weeks! So every pregnancy varies a lot.

Good luck and try to remain calm - easier said than done :?
