Aspirin question - advice plse

Post by KarenSmiff »

Hiya

Ive got myself in a right panic. worry worry worry.....

I am 7 weeks pregnant and this was my 3rd attempt ICSI.

Well on this go, Ive read up about using Aspirin, and there were no bad points to be mentioned, so anyway, on this attempt, i checked with my clinic, and they said it helps with the implantation and thins the blood flow (only slightly I can imagine, with 75mg tiny tabs). I got the BFP! So maybe it did help?

I had my scan last weds and the nurse said carry on with the aspirin until wk 12. After seeing the pharmacists face drop in Boots just now, I am thinking of stopping?????? I went to buy some more, only the little tablets, and he asked whether I was pregnant, his jaw dropped to the floor when i said yes. So I explained that the nurses had ok'd it (I also told the GP Friday, and he said as long as I dont go taking silly amounts like 4 tabs for a cold, shld be ok. Now this stupid man has got me worrying like mad!!!!!!

I stopped off at another chemist and checked with them, and they said if the clinic had advised, it should be ok, as IVF procedures are slightly different. Sorry to ramble... but you catch my drift.....advice greatly appreciated plse. :)

hi karen, any sign of doubt from anyone can send any of us into a tail spin so i fully understand that you feel worry. BUT your clinic said it was alright and really they do know.

i was told by fertility consultants to take asprin before i ever started ivf. you're right it thins the blood and improves the flow. i am flying next week and will be taking it then. i know the recommended dose is low, which is what your using so i say do what the clinic says.

AND stop worrying....

Thanks for that Phil!

Have a nice holiday (if thats where you are going).

I know I just need to chill. If there were any problems with the asprin, like you said, they definately wouldnt let me go and take it!! derrrr. Sometimes the outside world (eg Pharmacists) dont really understand the concept of IVF. They should read up on it, then they would understand, and stop scaring the Cr@p out of us (well, me anyway!!!) :)

I presume it is the 5mg you are on - don;t worry - there is no evidence to suggest they help in IVF at all but nothing to say they do any harm. I was on them when Oliver died and they said to stay on them until 30 weeks! I did not take them this time as my IVF clinic said the results were not conclusive to making IVF any more successful so I tried without and bingo. Many places say stop at 12 weeks - the babies or baby is fine by this time and unless you have a clotting problem then you would not need the aspirin anyway. It is fine to stop now if you want - nothing will happen as the baby is so small and does not need that amount of blood but carry on taking if it gives you peace of mind....... If you are worried then might I suggest you take Vitamin E - this is a natural blood thinner and won't set the tossy pharmacist off on a wobbly. I still take mine - not sure if need to but just like to.
Take care and don;t worry

Just to let you know I was also taking aspirin and when I was pg but then because I was bleeding I was advised by the clinic not to take it anymore, but with IVF I do know that some clinics do recommend it up to 12wks of the pg but not afterwards.
