Help with Beta Question...

Post by mikeandjess »

My surrogate had a beta hcg of 12 - 7dp5d fet. This seems too low. Has anyone ever seen numbers this low and still had a possible pregnancy?

I had a beta of 23.2 at 12dpo.... and so far things are looking good for me. Even a few hours difference in implantation can make that difference. the first number is NOT important.. it's the second beta that's important.

Try www.babymed.com and www.betabase.info for some great calculators and averages.

For that stage with a frozen embryo, that's not so bad. A little low. Yes, those can make it to live birth.

Ok. I have more news... and need more help.
The 1st beta was drawn 7dp5dt and was 12. But it was also drawn really late at night. It may have even been in the early morning hours of 8dp5dt. So we had another one drawn in the late evening yesterday which was 11dp5dt and it was 53. Is that looking better??? Please help!!

Did you use the website I gave you? I put your numbers in and it shows 12 as low for 13dpo, but it was doubling in 72 hours - and the clinic wants to see it double every 48 to 72. betabase.info link is broken for some reason, but the babymed.com one is working. Your 53 was still low on average, but looking better. I hope you keep getting betas done (try to have them at the same time - it's easier to calculate) and just hope for the best. I hope it all works out for you.

It's progressing but still low. You still have a chance, but that chance would be better if it was higher.

About 70% of positives make it to live birth. Usually we can quickly differentiate them into those with a higher probability than 70% and those with a much lower probability (near zero). Yours is lurking in the middle. I'll make a wild guess that your chance is somewhere near 50%.

Ok. Even more news...this is still showing slow progress. I hope these numbers speed up soon...

7dp5dt - beta was 12
11dp5dt - beta was 53
13dp5dt - beta was 108

At what point should I start to have hope????

What would make this number move this slow?

Congratulations on the continuing progress. It's a good sign, but you are very much still in the woods, so to speak.

Nobody knows exactly why a given implantation is slow or fast, until the outcome. If it's a loss, then we can claim the low values were due to a nonviable embryo. But some low and slow ones make it to live birth, so there are other causes?

I wish you the best of luck.

mike and jess, I was told at 12dp5dt that anything above 50 beta was a good sign and if it doubled after that was even better. I would say that things look good for you. Keep the faith and good luck.
