Please reply if you only transferred 1 embryo

Post by angelaezra »

Hello ladies,

Some of you might remember me from my post last year when I lost my daughter Ashley. Since then, we have tried one frozen egg transfer in May 2009 but it was a BFN and we only transferred one embryo.

My RE said that he feels it is too dangerous for me to transfer two like my first fresh IVF when we transferred two embryos. I ended up having a vanishing twin at 5 1/2 weeks and then I lost Ashley at 21 weeks.

I am so very nervous regarding our upcoming fresh egg transfer at the end of this month (March) because we are only transferring one embryo. So, what I want to know from you ladies is, please post your experiences to the questions below if you only transferred one embryo.

BFP or BFN:
Fresh or frozen:
How many attempts:
3day or 5day (blast) transfer:
Reason for the single embryo transfer:

Thank you so very much for your input!

Angela

BFP or BFN: BFP
Fresh or frozen: Fresh
How many attempts:2
3day or 5day (blast) transfer:5 day
Reason for the single embryo transfer: It is policy in the UK for under 35 to transfer only 1 if blast can be achieved.

Good luck, I hope it is your time.

Thanks for posting. If you don't mind answering ... do they have a theory why this transfer did not work or why none made it to freeze?

Hey Angela sorry I am replying to you eventhough I never transfered 1 embie, but my Md was allways worry about transfering 2 embies with me, because he said I am too small to carry twins or triplet. first time transferd 2 8cells embies ended up presume ectopic, second 1 8cells and 1 4cells BN. I think if you get 7 to up cells in day 3 it is good to go for the 3 days since some embies won't survive for 5 days. You know what even if he transfer 1 you still could end up with twins only God knows, and everything happing for a reason take a chance and listen to your heartif it says 2 go for it. I wish you best luck because you are a good person God is good.

My story:

BFP or BFN: BFP (on the second fresh attempt)
Fresh or frozen: Fresh
How many attempts: 2
3day or 5day (blast) transfer: First attempt 3 day (BFN), second attempt 5 day (BFP!)
Reason for the single embryo transfer: If you are having NHS funded treatment in the UK and are under a certain age, you can only transfer one embryo for the first couple of tries. Interestingly, the doctor who did the transfer of my single blast in December said that some recent studies have indicated there is little difference in success rate between transferring one and two embryos if they are at the blastocyst stage - I haven't done any research to try and find the studies.

I'm so sorry to hear what happened to you last year, I simply can't begin to imagine how traumatic that must have been. I wish you the best of luck in your upcoming cycle.
Me 35, DH 41
TTC 4+ years
4 IUI's, BFN
#1 IVF, 04/2009, BFN
#2 FET, 07/2009, no transfer, frosties failed to thaw
#3 IVF, 12/2009, +ve HPT New Years Day!

I had 6 eggs at ER, which was great, as only anticipated 5, and 3 days earlier, they were contemplating canceling as my estradiol was low. At day 3, 1 was a high quality 8 cel, one 7, 2 5's and a 3, and one more, I forget-a 7 or 5. I only wanted one-my medical history makes me extra nervous about the possibility of carrying twins. Not sure what I'll do this time.
I did not get any explanation for the negative results-because we decided at the last minute to go back to back, I never got to sit down w/ RE for a F/U. I know he felt it went well as he d/n change my protocol.

BFP or BFN: BFP
Fresh or frozen: Fresh
How many attempts: 1st, but technically 4th (this is for child #2)
3day or 5day (blast) transfer: 5 day
Reason for the single embryo transfer: RE recommended it - we had an excellent quality embie and their pg rates for single vs double are both about 60%.... plus with DS at 15mo old, working full time, fear of high risk pg and potential bed rest, and no family around, we were scared of twins this time around.

Let us know how it goes! When is your transfer?

That's a very interesting question, in general, and I like the way you worded it.

Think about it. After a cycle fails, the physician consults with the patient. If he seems to know why the cycle failed and what will work next, then the patient is likely to pay $$$$ for another cycle. Otherwise, no $$$$.
Avoid IVF and surrogacy in Ukraine. Ukrainian centers pay shills to post here under numerous sock accounts pretending to be patients in Ukraine. Centers using such deceptive advertising cannot be trusted and should be avoided.

BFP or BFN: BFP
Fresh or frozen: Fresh
How many attempts: 1st
3day or 5day (blast) transfer: Blast
Reason for the single embryo transfer: So many!

1. success rate for my age range at my clinic similar for 1 vs. 2
2. since it was just our 1st attempt it didn't make sense to me to risk a "high risk" pregnancy, but if I'd had failed attempts I think I would have a different opinion on this.
3. with all the financial stress of IVF, I hoped to be able to work fulltime throughout most of my pregnancy. (Everyone I know who has had a twin pregnancy was on bedrest for much of the time). I have a VERY inflexible job, so even getting to my OB appts for a singleton pregnancy was a challenge.
4. I had several friends with twins and it just seems SO much harder!!
5. We had 8 blasts to freeze, so I figured we could keep trying if we needed too.
6. One blast was clearly a higher quality than the others, it just seemed to be shouting "pick me, pick me"

Hope this helps. This is such an individual choose and we've all had our own challenges. Trust yourself and your gut!
