twins seeping patterns

Post by wishfull27 »

After some suggestions or advice from other mums of twins please - haveo 6 week old twin boys and up to 3 nights ago they were waking separately in the night to feed which was great as it meant either DH or I could continue to sleep - now they both have started waking together which means we are both awake and is not good for DH getting up at 5am for work :o
have ttried feeding the at different times in the evening and half feeding one and then feeding other but it just ends up with them both screaming and us both being knackered - any other suggestions ????

Are you feeding on demand? It may help to set a schedule. DH and I were fine with them both being up at the same time when we're both there to feed them, but DH works 24 hr shifts at times which means I have them some nights alone. So I would stick to a strict schedule and wake one up to feed and then wake the other. If I timed it right I'd wake them just before they'd wake on their own and seldom ran into them screaming at the same time. Of course sometimes it's just bound to happen! :D

Hi Carolyn!!! Great to hear from you.
I actually became proficient at feeding them at the same time. I have heard that some people put them in bouncy chairs and then hold the bottles - I assume you are bottle feeding if DH is feeding them alone - but I used to put one of them on my thighs (my feet were up on the coffee table so it was like a ramp for them) and then the other I laid perpendicular to me on the couch with his head on my lap (often resting on the feet of the other). They seems to enjoy this as they could both still look at you and they were close to each other. Once they were finished feeding, I would lay one down beside me while I burped the other and then switched. Then both back into bed. This helped me to get them on the same feeding and sleeping schedule as well!
I know it is a matter of figuring out what works for you so hopefully you'll settled into something that everyone is happy with! Best of luck.

DH and I placed our twins on the same rutine from day 1. It was great for us because it didnt take an hour to feed them both at seperate times. DH was in a horrible car accident and was in the hospital for a month when they were 2 months old (they are only 14 weeks now), and I did it myslef for an entire month and feeding and napping at the same time is the only thing that saved me!
I needed to go back to work to keep our insurance and even though dh is home now, he can not walk or hold them unless they are propped in his arms with a pillow.

My twins are now 13 weeks, born 4 weeks early and follow this schedule:

5AM Change-Feed- Go back to sleep
8AM- Change- Feed-Play
11AM-Change- Feed (Nap at 12)
2PM-Change- Feed-Play (Nap at 3:00)
5PM-Change- Feed-Play
8PM-Bath-Feed-Book- sleep until 5AM

I feel an ounce more at the 8PM and 5AM feeding, and they sleep through the night.

I just wanted to say I appreciate someone asking this question. I'm expecting twins in September...and I have so many questions on how to set up a routine that will make my life much less hectic. These will be my first babies...so I have no clue what so ever about babies. I'll be a stay-at-home mom, so I need to get them on a scheduel as soon as it is possible. I'm sooooo excited and know things will fall into place. I appreciate any additional advice you ladies can offer! :D
