can anyone tell me when they were able to hear a HB either at an appointment or by using a doppler yourself. My OB said i wont hear one until 14 weeks, and no u/s until 18-20 weeks. after going thru ivf im so nervous something is going to happen and i really feel likei need some peace of mind before that... any suggestions on how i might convince her or when ill be able to find the HB myself
We were able to see the hearts beating at 6w5d in the u/s. The RE did another one a few days later and again we saw the heartbeats and they tuned something on the machine and we could hear the heart beat. I think that might be a feature though, not the actual heart beat, but the machine simulating the sound based on how fast the heart is beating. I have been told that the earliest a doppler can pick up the heartbeat so you can actually hear it is 10 weeks. Some still have to wait a few weeks though. With my last pregnancy the doctor had issues finding the heartbeat sometimes so he would drag the u/s in at those times so we could catch it on there. Have you at least seen the heartbeat? To see it in a u/s normally you have to be close to or around 7 weeks. I had a few u/s because I went to my regular doctor and begged her to order one for me and she did. I am glad I did that because the radiology u/s are so much better than the doctors, even the RE has in his office. They are clearer and can zoom in so you can see more than just a blob. I hope you get to see/hear your little miracle's heartbeat soon!

I understand completely! I am the same way. I even went to the ER complaining about nausea just to sneak in another u/s. If you are really worried, there are ways to manipulate things to get and u/s. Beg your RE, beg your family care doctor or OB or go as far as I did and go to the ER. If you have a doppler or know someone who does, you have a chance you might be able to hear the heartbeat. My OB appointment is in two weeks, I am on pins and needles but thinking positive and hoping things are still ok. I think I will continue to worry no mater what though... until they are in my arms that is.

I have a friend who has a fetal u/s for 10 weeks and she came over last night to see if we could hear the heartbeat. After hearing all of the "wave" like sounds of the bloodflowing she heard the heartbeat under the wave like sounds. I did not have a chance to hear it but she is 100% confident she heard it. She is trained to use the doppler and is a doula so I was excited. We are going to try again on Tuesday and she thinks we will hear it with no problem. She says she can usually pick up the h/b at about 9.5 weeks and I will be just about 10 weeks on Tuesday.
Again, it depends on the strength of the doppler. Also, if you hear the blood flowing strongly she said that it is good because the pregnancy is viable. If it was not then you would not hear the bloodflow strong. Just interesting information to know. Let us know...
