Anyone has experience with day 6 transfer?

Post by hope_for_the_luck »

This morning we went to the clinic for our day 5 transfer but were told they want to hold another day for us since the only blastocyst is in a poor quality and there are three very promising early-stage blastocysts. Eight were sent to extended culture and two are arrested. The other two are still in morula form. It doesn't sound a good news for us. We had a very good day 3 report, out of the 18 fertilized embryos, 12 of them are grade 3 or above and 9 are 8 cell. We googled and found the day 6 transfer success rate is much lower than the day 5. Usually what may cause the delay in the embroy development? I had 29 eggs retrieved and 23 of them are mature. Is it possible that I am over-stimulatd? Guess I am just super sensitive to the stim medicines since my dose is not high at all. We are going throught IVF because of the male factor. Low motility (~20%) and low morphorlogy (~10% WHO), count is good. I am just so disappointed, if not devastated, and still suffering from the egg retrieval. No obvious OHSS symptom, but feel heaviness in the pelvic area.

I experienced a 6 day transfer but it was a FET. This was following my first fresh IVF. I originally transferred two fresh blasts for my first IVF (day 5), then my second IVF was a frozen cycle but since they let the embryos grow to day 6, my FET was a day six transfer.

I wish you good luck tomorrow!

Actually, I just found out that I just got my BFP. I took two HPT's and they are all positive! Whoo hoo!

Both my IVF (fresh) cycles have been 6dt and I got a BFP for both.

perhaps its a good sign they're growing them until day 6. My clinic won't freeze anything unless it looks decent on day 6. Unfortunately my embryos are slow growers and our first cycle we were scheduled for a 5dt but arrived to find out we only had 1 left and it was poor condition. What the heck- why didn't they call us earlier? So 2nd & 3rd cycle we planned on 3dt and this time we got BFP. Keep us posted on your day 6 trasnfer... how many are you putting back?

My first two cycles I started with 15 & 13 embryos, had a great 3d report, then got to 5dt and both times had slow growers. Both were BFNs. This time around we changed my entire protocol and had 5 embryos. Planned to do a 3dt, they called me the morning of and tried to move me since they still looked good and I refused (it was the embryologist who tried to move me...RE was glad I didn't listen). Said I was going in that day no matter what. Got my BFP, both stuck, and two made it to freeze (which we've never had before). so 4 of my 5 embryos were actually good. Who knows if it was the meds, eating better, whatever, but I was very happy I insisted on a 3dt.

As the other ladies have shown, there can be great success with 6dt, even if they are slow growers. That's why so many FETs work, because most ARE 6d. Really hoping that is the case for you. If not, and you chose to go through IVF again, insist on 3d no matter what. You could be like me where the embryos just stop growing in a lab after day 3.

I did the transfer this morning. We had 5 blastocysts, two are fair qualities, 4bb and 3bb; one borderline, 4bc; and two poor, 4cc and 3cc. So after transfer the first two in we have none to freeze. RE and the embryologist said we can transfer the borderline one as well but not encouraged. We gave up that one (which comes from the only blastocyst we had yesterday).

Hope- that is great! I didn't have perfect embryos this time (never have), so don't worry about that. So happy you were able to transfer and good luck!
