Hi.... I am new to IVF and these forums... Since I didn't see a thread for a group in the over 30's, I thought I start one up...
My hopes is to meet others that are going thru the same emotions and experiences as myself.
I have 37 and my DH and I have been trying for the past 3 years... Had an HSG done last month... (the most painful exam ever!) ouch!!!! DH and I were told that are only alternative to having a baby is IVF. I have not yet started on any meds. and have to many thoughts of confusion regarding IVF. I ask anyone out there for your advise.

Welcome! There are some great people on this forum that will help support you and your DH through your IVF journey.
AnnetteASalinas wrote:Welcome Angela. How are you doing?
I am doing well. I am currently waiting for my time to test (pregnancy test) for the IVF cycle that I just went through this coming Friday.
This IVF process can be like an emotional roller coaster but the great thing about this web site is that we are all in the same boat and can help each other through it. I suggest doing all the research and reading different post regarding IVF because you can learn so much on this forum. Please feel free to PM with any questions that you might have w/ your journey.
Hey Annette,
Welcome to the world of IVF! As Angela says, it's an emotional rollercoaster but if it's what you need to do to become pregnant then this is an exciting moment for you. It all begins here! I'm sure you have tons of questions - I'm v happy to answer anything I can. And I suggest that you join one of the cycle boards - that way you'll be surrounded my amazing ladies who will be cycling at the same time as you and will be able to offer you valuable advice and info.
Lots of luck

Hi Kushka,
Thanks for joining the thread. Thank you for your kind words. As of now, I have not started any meds.. The Dr. we are seeing told us to go back 10 days before AF and since I want to loose some weight we are thinking of going foward with the IVF in May. I do have many questions since this is all new to me. I've heard that the meds. cause one to gain weight.. has anyone experienced that? How should I prepare myself for IVF? All advise and suggestions are welcome.

Oh yeah, the weight gain can be very overwhelming. I will give you an example, I started taking my BCP and then the rest of the medication regimen and I gained 15 pounds in two weeks. I could have passed out when I stepped back on the scale from only two weeks prior. The nurse told me that I got off lucky because most of their patients gain even more weight! I said “more weight, what”????? But, I keep telling myself that when I can hold my baby in my arms, it will all be worth it and I can then concentrate on losing weight again. My only suggestion is to watch the cravings and carbs because some of the meds made me crave them. I normally don't eat breakfast but if I tried to skip it, I became very nauseated! So just try to eat healthy. Yeah right ... lol.

welcome Annette! if you've been trying for 3 years, then IVF may be your best option. my DH & I were trying for 2 years before I "gave in" and did my first IVF cycle. i don't think i would have made it through that cycle or this one without the support of the great ladies on these boards. being in my late 30's, i definitely felt more of a sense of urgency and every delay was extra stressful.
as for weight gain, i think most of it is bloating due to the stims. your ovaries get supersized. it goes away after a couple months.
{Me: 41, DH: 39} unexplained infertility
Feb 2012, trying for #2 no HB @ 11 weeks.
FET #1, Sept 2012 BFN
FET #2, Mar 2013?
My husband and I are both 33. We were diagnosed with severe male-factor infertility and have been directed to IVF/ICSI. We are currently waiting for an appointment with the urologist to do further testing before we can move forward. I am a bit frustrated at how slowly this is moving along, as I assumed that once a diagnosis occurred, we would be able to start IVF right away. Instead, we have been hold for at a month-and-a-half until the urologist appt. I'm hoping we will be able to start in late May or early June. I'm frustrated with all the waiting! I feel like I've been waiting for long enough (I have been desperately wanting a baby since about 2003. We started trying in 2006, tried unsuccessfully for 1-1/2 years, then took a break to move across country and start new careers. Last year we felt settled enough to work on a family and decided just to adopt. We were shocked at how expensive it is! Then we decided maybe we should have a few tests to see if it is "simple" problem to fix. Low and behold, we discovered that both of our insurance plans cover infertility testing AND treatment! This makes even IVF MUCH less expensive than adoption. So, here we are.)
