question about my egg retireival

I just got home from the egg retrieval and they were only able to get 9. Has someone had similiar experience with this number and if so, how many actually fertilized and were good for transfer? I need some answers, im very anxious and dont feel like we have many to go from.

Kacie – Hello, during my last fresh IVF cycle I had 10 follicles w/ eggs on my right ovary and just as many on my left ovary but my RE couldn’t reach my left ovary due to its position behind my uterus and between my colon. So he only retrieved 10 eggs and 8 fertilized by the next day but only 3 reached the blastocysts stage and I transferred 1 embryo. But, remember every cycle is different and your body responds to each cycle differently. During my first IVF cycle, he only retrieved 11 eggs from both ovaries and 9 fertilized and 7 survived to the blastocysts stage. So, you see 10 eggs for ER is good because it only takes one to become pregnant as you can see by my signature.

Be grateful that you had 9 eggs retrieved. I only had 3 and out of the 3, we only got 2 embryos. We did a day 3 transfer with both and I am now on my 2ww. My test is next Monday. The wait is killing me.

Hi Kacie,
My 1st IVF, I only had 4 eggs retrieved, 2 fertilized. Both were put back in 3 days and I got pregnant. It can happen with the smallest numbers.

Thanks for the responses! We found out today that 5 fertilized. We are a little nervous at how many we will end up with because we have to do PGD for recurrent miscarriages (3). Three more days until we know for sure! I feel like all we have been doing for the past 3 years is waiting so a couple more days wont hurt I wish the best for all of you!

wow! it gives me hope...RE just called i had 4 good sized follicles 18-20 mm..the rest of the 2 are only 10-14 mm in size. RE askes me if i wanna cancel ivf but my DH said if there's a chance (even at 15-20%) we'll go for it. i am stressed now. my retrieval is on wed and im not sure if those 4 will make it. RE and the techs cant find my overies on my left at each US. help...i need some light on this matter...thank u.

My first cycle, I had only ONE follicle and ONE egg....it fertilized and i did have a BFP but unfortunately miscarried at 10 weeks. 2nd cycle (different RE, different protocol) had 13 eggs, 12 fertilized but only 4 made it to blast. Transferred 2 and have 2 frosties...am currently 11 weeks pregnant...it only takes one....best of luck to you!

thats the only thing that gives me hope..it takes only 1..hopefully there is that 1 strong egg to make it to preganancy!
