The Talk Approaches

Post by bolognamom »

Our daughter, who was an adopted embryo, will turn 6 on Tuesday. I have been looking for a way to start the conversation with her about how she came to our family, but it is such a challenge; the truth is far too technical and complicated for her to comprehend -- more nuanced on many levels than talking to a young child about adoption. Yet she clearly sees that her features are different from others' in our family, and she has every right to know her story -- a story that we love and cherish.

I have not found good children's books to use for starting this conversation. There are good books about adoption, but not to my knowledge about surrogacy or embryo donation/adoption.

Does anyone have advice on resources?

You may view our children's book at www.xyandme.com. There is a version for embryo adoption. If you would like the text of the book, please email us. Janice
