Chemical pregnancy? Did it happen to you?

Post by riogirl71 »

I had a 9dpt (3 day transfer) beta of 33 then 57 at 11dpt, today I went for my 3rd beta expecting it to have doubled and they told me that it was exactly the same as Friday, 57. I test again on Tuesday but it doesn't look good.
For those who have had that happen, what were your numbers? How long before AF came again? Any other tips or insight?
Thank you! I have a sliver of hope still even though the odds are againt us, it is hard to give up!

Ugh, Rio. Praying hard that this isnt happening to you. My doc tests 1x a week....so my numbers went from:

29 (7dp5dt)
524 (14dp5dt)
515 (21dp5dt)
480 or something (22dp5dt)
360 or something (25dp5dt)
miscarriage (27dp5dt)
7.4 (32dp5dt)

Since my number was awesome at 524 (exact same number as Zach's was at this point...it was crazy)...I do believe in my heart that it got up to the 1500ish range (if it continued to double) and then looking back on it...I lost the baby...mid-week between betas...due to the loss of all pregnancy symptoms and feelings. So by the next beta it had already dropped back to 515...if that makes sense. It is my gut feeling that it took 10 days for my baby to actually pass from the time he/she passed away. It was also 5 1/2 days from my last progesterone shot. They never saw anything on ultrasound...it could have absorbed by that point as small as it was. I had spotting the night before and then I had medium bleeding and clotting the next day which is actually considered my first day of active bleeding and the miscarriage day...and I also passed something 2" around. I wore an overnight pad. The next 3 days was a light flow and ended with spotting. If I hadnt known that I was pregnant...I may have never even realized that it was a normal period with clotting. I may not have been looking or noticed the 2" clot. The nurse told me that since they never saw anything on ultrasound that it "could" even be considered a chemical pregnancy...though I disagree. If your numbers do not progress any higher...it should not take you this long. I hope this helps.

I pray that you dont need this info. Good Luck Rio.

I had a chemical pregnancy @ 5 weeks. I found out I was preggo by an HPT @ home @ 3.5 weeks. Pretty early then went in for beta first one was 88. The RE said that was a good #. The second one was 49 and told me it was not a viable pregnancy and to stop the shots. I think my cramps were worse than normal than with my period. Actually I don't hardly even get cramps anymore with my AF. My next AF took extra long to come on after that, I guess my body was messed up for awhile. Good luck to you. I know for myself I was pretty devastated. I was bringing my DD to the mall that day to sit on Santa's lap, when I got the call from my nurse. I remember crying alot in the mall that day. It was a couple of weeks before Christmas, and I thought this was the best present I could have asked for.I remember being annoyed cause no one called me from the clinic with the results over the weekend, so I figured no news was good news. I was sadly mistaken just lazy people. I'm no longer with that clinic anymore. I'll say a prayer for you, hugs. :)

Thank you for sharing. My clinic forgot to call me on Friday and one time he went over someone else's chart entirely with me until I caught something weird on it. So I am still hoping for some weird mistake since the number was exactly the same, not one point higher or lower. But the again it is a sliver of hope and I want to prepare myself for the worst. I am so sorry Tammy and Jenice that you had to go through this. Knowing you got pregnant just to know you will be losing it is devastating. Baby dust to both of you!

ri ogirl - Thanks, I also was annoyed cause I'm very high risk for ectopic pregnancy since I've had 2 of them. So, I guess the clinic didn't think anything was up with the dropping beta #'s ????? Ohhh, and all the years I went to them, did you think they tested DH morphology ????? We could have done our last fresh with ICSI if we had known that. Should've, could've, would've @ least we switched clinics. yeah, that is strange for the same #, lots of sticky glue sent to you :)

Jenice, I am worried about the ectopic thing too, I told my DH that if we don't get checked out better after all this I will call my OB. They never checked your DH????? WTH? We went straight for ICSI since it was our only shot at it. My DH feels horrible and yesterday I could tell he was hurting thinking it was his fault. I told him I am blessed to have him and it is a "we" can't conceive naturally not a "you" or "I" thing. He is a sweetie.
I am glad you swtiched clinics! I wish we had more of a choice but only one around this area...

Thank you for the sticky glue and lots of baby dust to you!!!

Oh Rio...so sorry to hear about this. I have been away from the boards for a while.

I think my last try was technically a chemical pregnancy, but my numbers were way lower than yours. I had a 5 the first test day, which 2 days later was a 13, 2 days later became a 31, and then 2 days later dropped to 15. After I stopped the progesterone when I had the decrease in numbers, I think it took about 1 week for AF to show. And it was the most painful, physically and emotionally, af I have ever had. I was doubled over in pain and cramps, until I passed a big clot, that I think may have been the start of something. I really hope it was a lab error and you hear better news soon.

It is officially over, 37 today. Now just wait for AF to come and see what's next for us.

Hi CT - thanks for replying, how have you been? I am so sorry you had to go through this too.

Thank you again for your prayers and good wishes!

I went for bloodwork on Tuesday and the number went from 37 to 44, go figure! I still feel horribly swollen and my body still feels and acts pregnant which is so hard knowing it is not a viable pregnancy. I do blood again on Tuesday and hopefully it will have gone down a bunch.

Jenice - how long did it take for AF? I have no sign of it coming anytime soon. I just want to move on at this point. It has been 4 weeks since ET. I am also worried this could be an ectopic so I will ask on Tuesday. RE said that he could give me medication to speed it along but another RE I talked to said that would affect my fertility for up to 6 mos!

Oh oh. You know that means they will be watching this one very closely.

If this was a fresh transfer, then AF may not come until the hCG is gone. It stimulates the follicles to keep making progesterone, and progesterone will usually keep AF away. If it was a frozen embryo, then there may be no follicles to stimulate.
Avoid IVF and surrogacy in Ukraine. Ukrainian centers pay shills to post here under numerous sock accounts pretending to be patients in Ukraine. Centers using such deceptive advertising cannot be trusted and should be avoided.

Thank you Ghost, this was a fresh transfer. I hope they are watching it closely but my clinic doesn't seem very concerned, I am just worried it could be an ectopic or are the numbers too low for that?

Have you heard that giving medication to speed along AF affects your fertility for up to 6 mos?

Thanks!
