2ww, please help

Post by onegoodswimmer »

Hi all,
Here goes my first post...
We have just completed our third IVF cycle, 2 fresh, this last FET. We are set to get our beta test tomorrow, although today is 14dpt 3 day embryos. Because it is Memorial Day, we wait until tomorrow. :| :(

I have a few questions:
1. The hpt i have taken in the past few days have all returned negative. However, I am taking vaginal progesterone 3x/day. Could this interfere with the results? Could I get a negative hpt and still have a good beta level? I just want to be prepared.

2. If it doesn't work, I am wondering, should we try a new clinic? We are at UC San Francisco, an amazing hospital by all standards. However, not in the top ten for Infertility. :?:

3. If we should try a new clinic, any recommendations? We are willing to go anywhere if they are really the best.

4. At what point do you all just say enough, it isn't meant to be? I am dreading the idea of going through surrogate or adoption, it is ANOTHER whole process to learn. Each IVF cycle has become progressively difficult on me and my hubby.

Any thoughts would be so appreciated. I have no one in my life who has been through this, and it has been an extremely lonely and isolated year, especially watching all my friends get pregnant with their husbands just breathing on them. I just can't bear to hear "just relax" or "your time will come" or "i know someone who stopped thinking about it and got pregnant immediately!" [sigh]

Thanks!
Kate

Kate – I wanted to reply to you and say I understand how you feel regarding this IVF rollercoaster and you definitely are not alone!

Regarding your question about your transfer, your HPT should have shown a positive by now if it is 14dpt3d. But, I also want to say that there have been women who have tested negative on the same day of their beta w/ a HPT and their beta’s turned out positive. What kind of HPT have you tested w/ … First Response has a very sensitive HCG detection compared to several other test? Also, you asked if progesterone can affect your HPT outcome … it should not. Progesterone cannot cause a false positive.

I know it is frustrating but I wish you all the luck in the world for your test tomorrow! As far as fertility clinics, I don’t really have any suggestions because I am located in Ohio and have been very happy w/ my RE. I think Ghost, who is on here also, can give you some advice about clinics. You can start another topic tomorrow if your beta is neg. and ask for suggestions. Also, you can look up clinics success rates through ART or SART. Since this is your third attempt, has your RE provided you with any ideas of why the first two didn’t work or at least change your protocol from one cycle to the next? If he/she hasn’t changed anything w/ your cycles and you are not getting any positives, it might be time to move on …

Please let us know your results of your test tomorrow.

Angela

1. The progesterone cannot affect the hCG test. The two molecules are very different (one is a steroid, the other a protein). A negative hpt at this point is obviously not good news, so perhaps it is best to be realistic. But keep in mind, once in awhile the blood test finds it even on the same morning after a negative hpt. Not really common, but it does happen.

2. Not clear to me. UCSF looks about average from what I can tell and from what I have heard.

3. I have heard that Kaiser in Fremont has an excellent lab. Their rates seem to be pretty good. That should be fairly close to you.

4. Surrogate? You have uterine issues? Or did you mean egg donor?

My advice might be to wait a month or two and then decide. Or maybe you are pregnant. You will know tomorrow. Good luck.
Avoid IVF and surrogacy in Ukraine. Ukrainian centers pay shills to post here under numerous sock accounts pretending to be patients in Ukraine. Centers using such deceptive advertising cannot be trusted and should be avoided.
