aims - how is your husband doing now?

Cynthia - is the diarreah gone for the twins?

Hope everybody is doing good with their little ones.

My DD started to eeping on her belly recently!! I tried to put her on her back a few times, but she again turns over later. I am not sure if this is good. I am scared that she might get suffocated or her neck will hurt. I keep checking on her every one hour because I am really worried.

Tara.

Yess!! The diarrhea and diaper rashes are gone! woohoo!! :D We're back to being a pretty happy family now.

MedStudentMom2B, I've slowly started to wean the twins off their pacifiers. I noticed that DH and I had developed a bad habit of offering it to them even when they might not need it. So I stopped giving it to them for car rides/on the way to day care. They keep some at day care but I'm about to tell them to not give it to them so much. Joslyn has always been able to sleep without hers but Chaz would wake up fussy wanting someone to put his back in his mouth. He still does this sometimes but it seems to be getting better on its own. They've begun to put any and everything in their mouths anyway so I think the pacifiers actually get in their way

dys24 have you tried solids yet? Chaz was starting to eat more and more. At some feedings he'd get really fussy and we'd give him a few more ounces...as many as 10! I knew then we had to get some solids on that belly! Right now they are only getting one solid meal at night but next week we'll add another meal at lunch. They've been sleeping much better at night lately and I think it may be the food. I can't believe you're gearing up for your FET already!! Time flies! Good luck and keep us posted :D

Tara, I was also worried when Chaz started sleeping on his belly. I kept watching to make sure he was breathing  . Sometimes he'd have his face turned directly into the mattrass and it would freak me out. But don't worry. At this point they are capable of rolling so they can change positions and turn their heads when they need to. Chaz is much more comfy on his stomach and sleeps better. Jos has just started to sleep some on her tummy. You'll find after a while there's no use in turning them back over.

Medstudentmom - My son was very attached to his paci as well and I thought he'll never want to give it up, but he actually stopped wanting it at about 4 months. We never took it away from him or limited how much he had it, but slowly he just seemed to lose interest in it on his own and started to like his hands in his mouth better. Now he's 7 months and he never uses a paci and just puts every toy in his mouth. :-)

Tara - I was worried as well when our son started sleeping on his tummy. I'd keep checking on him but after a couple of weeks I finally started to relax about it. He sleeps so much better now that he sleeps on his tummy and makes his way all around the crib at night.

Hi Ladies,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts about babies sleeping on their belly. I feel a lot better now. I have another quetion. I tried giving rice cereal to DD several times, but she won't take it. Yesterday I bought the Gerber banana baby food and gave it to her. She seems to like it very much. After the first tasting, when I show her the spoon in front of her, she opens her mouth and lunges forward!!!

I think most babies first start with rice cereal. Since she is not taking it, is it ok to start her on other baby foods?

Tara - You could try the rice cereal that has fruit in it or the Gerber oatmeal. Are you mixing it with formula or breast milk rather than water? I started our son on baby foods just shy of 6 months. Just start them slowly with a new kind every couple of days to be sure each one doesn't cause an allergy. Pears are also a good one to start with.

Tara, I read that you don't have to start with rice cereal. People usually do because it's easy for them to digest and it's a food they are least likely to be allergic to. We tried rice cereal first and the twins weren't crazy about it. I then tried peaches and they loved it! Then I tried mixing just a little bit of the peaches in with the cereal and that worked. Really the only reason we use the cereal is because it's cheaper and we're able to stretch out the fruit since we're mixing it :D . We just stuck with the peaches last week and today we gave them green beans and I was shocked that they love that as well!

My issue right now is I don't know when and how much to feed them! Everything I read just says that you have to work out your own schedule. Right now we're up to feeding them solids twice a day...around lunch time and them for dinner. It's the bottles in between that I'm not sure about. Should we be cutting back on the amount of formula? Also, how much of the solid foods should they eat in one sitting?? Sometimes they aren't in the mood and don't eat much. Other times I swear they'd just keep eating if we didn't stop them. They've eaten a whole jar in one sitting and seemed as if they could keep going! Anyway, I'm sure this is stuff my pediatrician will go over next week at their 6 month check-up...just curious of what everyone else is doing.

Cymplicity - Our pediatrician said not to cut back on formula or breast milk. She said that's still most important as they still need the nutrition from it. The solids are just basically extras. It's hard though because I know our son sometimes would rather have the baby food. She said it's fine if he eats a whole container in one sitting. Now that he's 7 months old, sometimes he'll eat 1 1/2 containers of the 2nd foods.

Tara- I never even tried rice cereal because i hear it constipates so i went straight to oatmeal and my dd loved it! My pedi said to introduce oatmeal first and then baby food every 5 days different one. like cymplicity said they usually reccomend to strt with rice because supposebly its gentler on their tummies but my pedi said actually there are studies now that say that rice has the same risks as oatmeal and barley so go figure ! lol i dont think you have anything to worry about.

cymplicity- what i do is feed veggies around noon 1hr after the bottle and fruits around 6pm 1 hr before the last bottle and that seems to work and she still eats the same amount of formula :) sometimes she will eat the whole jar of baby food and sometimes only half, the stuff she doesnt like she only eats half but the stuff she loves like carrots squash and sweet potatoes she can just keep going and going lol she screams for it like excitement scream when i walk away lol

I posted yesterday but my post disappeared. My husband is doing a little better. In the past two weeks, he's had 3 ER visits, been admitted once, and 2 surgeries to remove kidney stones. He was tested about a year ago and put on medicine to prevent stones, but now they think he is developing a different type. So, more testing. I just hope he doesn't get any stones while we're waiting for the test results.

dys - Good luck on your FET. Keep us posted.

Piper and Ren are doing good. I've been feeding Piper solids for about a month now. Her favorite is pears. Their pedi told me to start off with pears, applesauce, and bananas. Also rice cereal. She will only eat the rice cereal with fruit mixed in. I've gave Ren some solids but mostly formula. The pedi wants him to wait a little longer for solids and use the formula to put some weight on him.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your replies about the pacifiers. Hopefully I will be able to wean them off of them soon. Im really scared of them being 2yrs old and still using a paci. My neighbor has a daughter like that and she says she should have thrown out the paci early before her daughter got too attached to it.

I have a general question for all you mommies of boy/girl twins (seems to be quite a few on this site). I have noticed a huge difference between my boy and girl in terms of their temperament. My boy is way more fussier than the girl. I can leave her in a chair and she will just sit there and look around, whereas the boy just cannot sit still and will cry. She also smiles and laughes a lot more than he does. Do you guys notice the same with your twins? My mom says that boys are just more difficult early on when they are babies. Any truth to this?

Thanks ladies for the tips on feeding. I feel like I have a little direction now. :)

aims, I'm sorry your hubby has to go through that. I know kidney stones suck! I'll include him in my prayers tonight!

Medstudentmom2B, my twins switch back and forth. Intitially Joslyn was extremely laid back! She hardly ever cried. Chaz was a grunter and always seemed uncormfortable so I held and babied him a lot. After about a month Jos started getting fussy and wanted to be held all the time. She's gotten better over the months but she's still more needy now than Chaz. Chaz is the friendly, smiley, playful one and you really have to catch Joslyn in the right mood. People gravitate towards Chaz and Jos just stares at everyone like their crazy  . So I guess in my case it's the opposite but yes, there's definitely a difference in their temperament!

MedstudentMom2B - Yes there is definitely a difference between my twins. Ren is a lot fussier than Piper but he also smiles and laughs more. It's hard to feed him sometimes cause he just sits there and smiles. lol. Piper looks at everyone like they are crazy and occasionally smiles for other people. The biggest difference I've noticed is their development. Piper is starting to sit on her own and her legs are getting stronger. Ren, however, has to work hard to hold his head up.

dys - How was your FET on the 18th? Lots of baby dust!!!

Things with me and the twins are going ok. Not much new to report with them. They are getting more active. Piper is sitting up on her own now but hasn't figured out how to crawl yet. Ren is holding his head up pretty good now and steadily gaining weight. My biggest problem is getting them to go to bed at night. Speaking of that they are awake. I hope everything is doing good and will post when they can.
