Celine Dion pregnant w/ twins after multiple IVF attempts

I read this in the newspaper today. “Dion underwent her sixth in-vitro fertilization attempt, staying in New York City for a month and also undergoing acupuncture treatments -- "and it worked!" the rep says.

The "My Heart Will Go On" chanteuse and manager husband Rene Angelil, 68, "are both extremely excited. But really, since this was the sixth time, they just want a healthy pregnancy," the rep adds.

Dion is currently 14 weeks along, and will find out the gender of their child next month. The baby-to-be will join big brother Rene-Charles, who turned 9 in January. Rene-Charles was also conceived by in vitro after six years of trying. Last year, Dion revealed to Oprah Winfrey that she had suffered a miscarriage after another IVF attempt. "We're living the reality of the majority of couples who face these procreation techniques," her husband Angelil told a French-Canadian newspaper in November”.

Good for her o admit she got pregnant through IVF, I applaud her. So many celebrities get pregnant in their 40s and refuse to admit how they got there... I wish more women would come forward, I read an article where one fertility doctor was overwhelmed with women saying "if so and so got pregnant with twins at 44 why can't I?" because they were under the impression these celebrities were conceiving naturally. The chances of Kelly Preston having conceived naturally at 47 are close to 0. Again, I just wish that they would all come out in the open and support women who go through IVF. I am very happy for their pregnancies!

I agree and it is great news for both of those women. Marcia Cross (of Desperate Housewives fame) is also fairly open and honest about IVF.
I also suspect that these women used donor eggs, which celebrities are unlikely to admit. In a way, I wish they would admit if they used Donor Eggs so that others would feel better going that route. But PLEASE don't get me wrong, I respect their privacy and understand that dealing with fertility is a very personal and emotional journey.

I applaude the celebrity women who acknowledge their fertility treatments too... and I also wish they would include the donor eggs or embryos when they use them - I think it would make a world of difference for so many out there who want to consider that route but have reservations or just questions.

I read an article that talks about the number of celebrities over 40 who are having children... and how if they ARE in their mid-to-late 40s or older, especially, that they almost DEFINITELY are using donor eggs. Why not add that to the public announcement when they say they've used IVF?! There's no shame in it for goodness sake!

I didn't know Marcia Cross was open about it, good for her! I agree that there is absolutely no shame in using donor eggs or embryos but I can see where that might be something they might not want made public at least until their kids are old enough to understand. I think I would want my child to find out from me that they were conceived using donor eggs or embryos and not from a tabloid. Does that make any sense? But wow if they came forward with all of their struggles!
I wish more celebrities would come forward, I have not heard of Kelly Preston saying anything yet, I wish they were more "real" in their struggles like Celine Dion who went through so much. It just seems like at over 45 they are "ooops" miraculously pregnant!

You ladies all have some great points! I am also happy that she shared her story with the pubic as there are so many couples who suffer from infertility and they think they are alone!

My SIL posted this over the weekend on my FB and I had to laugh. We both got pg with twins via IVF at the same time! Now I am curious as to what her actual ER date was.

I agree with what others have said about privacy regarding donor eggs. There is zero shame in it, but that is a very personal issue between parent and child, and not easy to understand. We are very open about our adoptions, but it's easier to say, "You grew in another mommy's tummy" rather than, "You grew in my tummy, but biologically you have someone else's DNA, and your Daddy's DNA." I think children will take a little longer to understand that.

I just read about Brooke Shields and she talked about 7 failed IVF cycles before conceiving her first daughter. Good for her!!!
