Hi all?
Im going to have IVF treatment in december after trying with my partner to have a baby for five years? I really want to know how many people have actually been successful and after how many goes of IVF have actually had children!!! Is there any first time IVF successes? please tell me......
I personally had success the first time, however Im 24 years old (PCOS) and mainly did IVF due to male factor infertility. I think success is very dependent on the individual person based on age, weight, ovarian reserve egg quality, response to meds and male factor issues just as examples. there are soo many things that go into it. My RE personally gave me a 50/50 chance at acheiving a pregnancy every cycle. I have heard of people getting as low as a 10% chance due to age and other factors. Good luck!
Thanks for the reply Im 25 years old and i think from the so called docs that one of my tube is blocked? Apart from that everything is a ok so i would like to know a bit more about IVF and what i got to do and whats going to happen etc? Im so scared? Advice please xxx IVF starts in december????
As you can see from my signature it has taken me a lot longer, i had 5 failed attempts before my 1st pregnancy then had 2 miscarraiges but now am 17 wks pregnant (touch wood) after my 7th attempt....7th time lucky Our chances were always about 33%. Dont be scared its not as bad as it sounds and once you start your cycle you will fine. We were always advised that it may not happen 1st time and not to get to upset over it so when it failed we just brushed it off and started again, it can be tough but just stay focused on the end result and joining a board with others cycling with you is great emotional help. You will be fine but you never know a miracle may happen between now and December
Best of luck

Hi Gi, Im so happy it worked for you But took a while see thats what im afraid of if it doesnt work i cant deal with the heartache If you dont mind me asking how old are you Does age really matter Im not sure what will happen i got to see a nurse in september so she can show me about these injections i have to do Do they hurt I have also been told that when my eggs are ready to be taken out that it really hurts Is this true By all means anyone reply the more the better especially all you first time successes Thank you ever so much xx
Ask as many questions as you like, i started ivf at 27 and i am now 30. I totally understand your fears i had them too but we were so determined to have a baby as soon as it was a negative i booked next cycle straight away, yes it is upsetting if you get a negative but believe me it has been worth every tear shed and when i finally get to hold my little girl (God Willing) i know i would never change a single moment of my journey as she will be so precious and worth the weight. The injections arent actually that sore though i have heard some girls say the progesterone injection can be sore but i have always used the suppository. Just keep telling yourself it will be worth it. Also i have always been put to sleep for all my egg collections so never felt a thing you should ask your clinic how they sedate you but the majority of clinics do put you to sleep its not full general anaesthesia we call it here "sudo sedation". You may feel bit crampy afterwards but nothing a painkiller wont solve. Keep reading all about all the girls cycling together and you will get an understanding of how things work.

The best advice I could give you for IVF is to stay positive!!! As soon as my husband and I began this process we lived like we were pregnant and we talked about our life as if it were going to work. We stayed positive, laughed, tried to be as happy as possible. My doctors have been telling me since I was 16 that I would never get pregnant, and if it did happen there is no way my uterus would let the embryo attach. I had severe endo, scared tubes, tilted uterus, low progesterone. The IVF dr was not sure it would work. I had faith and now I'm pregnant!!! Hang in there, give it a try and think positive, it will happen for you!!
Me: 27, Stage 4 Endometriosis, scared tubes, 1.5 ovaries DH:27, perfect in every way IVF cycle: May 2010 BFP!!!!!!
I love ESHeperd's advice to stay positive and only wish I was better at it. My husband and I have been going to our RE since February of 09 and we will finally begin the IVF process at our next appointment on June 30th. My husband is definitely the positive one and is sure we will go through this and get pregnant the first time, but I am more skeptical. I'm going to try to be more upbeat and positive...it's all in someone elses hands now.

wannabeamum - My first IVF worked. I was 34 yoa my first time. My RE gave me a 25% chance...and I took it. I know that many women do not get pregnant the first time, but the odds are in your favor if you are willing to do it at least 3 times (I have read several times that we have a 75% success rate if people do at least 3 cycles). We were prepared mentally that we would have to do it 2-3 times before getting our first baby, so felt blessed it worked the first time. I am now in my 2ww with IVF#2 and praying for a second miracle and sibling for my son. If it doesn't work...we may have to sell some things to try again...but it's worth it. As for the shots...they really aren't that bad. The egg retrieval can be uncomfortable, but not so bad. It is over fairly quick and they give you good drugs. The transfer is kinda of like a pap smear...unpleasant, but not painful. Once you start doing your shots, you quickly realize that it's not so bad. It's the hormones that rage in your body that might be more of an issue...at least it was for me...because I feel like a mad woman when on birth control pills and lupron. Good luck...and babydust coming your way.

He was spot on and towards the end of my reading he said am i trying for a baby i was blown away!!! He said it would happen very soon so im hoping it works first time...... It would be even better if it happened natually!!! My IVF i found out starts in September!!! Im so excited xxxx xxxx Love to you all xxx
It worked the first time for us, we have male fertility due to chemo for his cancer. We tried again 2 years later and we are still not sure what's going on with us. I heard that you most likely will have a baby within 3 cycles!
Good luck!
me 39 + DH 46 low mot - chemo
#3 IVF Lost one twin at 8 wks
#2 IVF May 2010 Ectopic
#1 IVF
We were successful on our 1st IVF try and I was 39 turning 40 a few months later. Sure age is a bit of a factor, but you are very young, and have no reason to worry about that at all. As you can see age didnt matter in our case.
We both have alot of little issues that add up to alot of big issues. We just tried a FET and I got pregnant, only to miscarry at 6 weeks. However, the good news is that at almost 42, I did get pregnant on try #2!!! We will be trying again soon. Zach needs a sibling.
The most important thing you can do...is to know that it may or may not work right away regardless of your issues and age...but eventually it will...stay positive and keep at it. Good Luck!
