Hi Ghost,
I am hoping you, or anyone else, can shed some light on these questions. My doctor apparently does all transfers using a TVU rather than an abdominal one - have you ever heard of this? I took this from his web site - While virtually every center performs trans-abdominal ultrasound with a full bladder, Dr. Miller performs Embryo Transfers with trans-vaginal ultrasound. This allows the procedure to be completed without a full uncomfortable bladder. Moreover, visualization is superior.
Our Embryo transfer technique is modified for success. Dr. Miller uses a two-catheter technique. A dummy catheter finds the precise location for placement, then a second catheter is used to actually transfer the embryos. "This allows the embryos to spend less time in the unstable environment of the catheter," said Dr. Miller, director of in vitro fertilization. "The entire procedure takes less than 10 minutes with embryos transferred in mere seconds, but it's a critical time for the fragile embryos."
My next question is regarding diet after the FET. I have been exercising and dieting for several months in preparation for this FET. I will not exercise during my 2WW, but can I diet? How many calories do I need for the embryo to attach or does it matter? I have been eating around 1000 calories a day.
Thanks!!!!!!!! You are the greatest! Michelle
The clinic I attend does not use abdominal ultrasound for transfers. They like you to empty your bladder before the procedure. In fact they don't seem to use any ultrasound at all. Just lie down, speculum, one catheter and good bye, good luck. They do suggest you sit and have a cup of tea before leaving. When we first tried 4 years ago, they used to make you wait lying down after the transfer until the scientist had made sure there were no embryos left in the catheter. They didn't do that in more recent ones.
The transfers they do are 2d ones so they are just going to hang around anyway, so perhaps positioning isn't as important.

That's new to me. I'll see what the docs think.
I think it may be better to be on a normal, healthy diet with a sustainable caloric level.

Cillie,
Thanks for your reply - my last clinic didi not want to use an ultrasound for transfer either, but I made them. I want to make sure those embryos are in the right spot!
Ghost,
As always, THANKS! Please let me know what your doctors say. My transfer is Monday. It seems a bit odd to me...
I will try and eat a healthy, higher caloric diet. Michelle

The doctor has heard of this technique, although it is not common. He suspects it should work well.
As for diet, he reminded me that my correct answer is always that you should follow your own doctor's instructions. For his own patients, the doctor said he would have no issues with a proper 1000 calorie diet. He likes his patients to keep the carbs moderate, especially near implantation.

Ghost,
You are the BEST! I will ask my doctor about my diet and keep my carbs down around implantation - I never heard about carbs influencing implantation - though I have heard that people on low carb diets sometimes get pregnant easier. You truly are AWESOME!
I'll let you know how things go! Michelle

Thanks.
Be sure to tell us about your pregnancy.
I will be away from the board in late June and the first week of July.
