Why does my RE office not want me to take a HPT? The nurse told me that many people who take a HPT get a false negative and become very sad and then when they come in for their beta, the are BFP. THAT i can understand. But she also said many people take a HPT and get a BFP and when they come in for their beta, its a BFN....is that possible? She said that HPT's were not meant for invitro patients and that the results are unreliable either way. Is this true? Ghost? Anyone? Why do they not want me to take a HPT so bad? They told me not to like 4 times!

They have a point. If you take it less than 12 days after the trigger shot, then it could easily result in a false positive. After about 12 days, false positives become unlikely, but false negatives are common for at least a few more days after that, and can occur even up the day of your "beta" (blood test for hCG).
hCG reaches a peak about 24 hours after injection, then fades for about 10 days or so. It's near zero at that point, but then a pregnancy can start to increase it. It usually takes a few days to get to the level that an HPT can detect, but it varies a lot from one patient to the next. 15 days after retrieval, one pregnant patient might have hCG at 25 mIU/ml, another might be 40 times that level.
I'd say testing is okay as long as you keep this in mind. Don't test too early, and don't be discouraged by a negative.
Avoid IVF and surrogacy in Ukraine. Ukrainian centers pay shills to post here under numerous sock accounts pretending to be patients in Ukraine. Centers using such deceptive advertising cannot be trusted and should be avoided.
Kamaile – My clinic said the same thing but I just had to know and prepare myself before my official beta test, so I took HPT each time I have had an IVF transfer. When is your official beta test scheduled?
In the meantime, you can test each day before your beta to see if your second line on the HPT gets darker each day. If it is a true false positive, it will get lighter each day because your trigger shot (HCG) is being eliminated out of your body but if it gets darker each day that means your HCG level is rising and you are pregnant!
i had 2 grade A embies transfered June 17 im very impatient and did a hpt on the 23rd ... not quite a week, and it was a BFN! I then did a test the next day and could see a faint line, everyday since then i have done a hpt ( not healthy i know- but im slightly crazy right now) and every day the test has got darker and darker im due for my beta on thursday, i called my clinic to ask if it was a false posative i have been seeing and my clinic sugested to me that all of the tests i had done meant nothing! and they can only say the posative results are neither here nor there, untill they measure the level of homone in my blood. that hpts pick up small amounts of HCG but actually it might just be a chemical preg???? HELP has any one heard of this

Cherry – I am sorry that your clinic scared you like that but if your HPT is getting darker then you are most likely pregnant. If it became lighter each time you tested then if could be a false positive because of the HCG trigger you used. As far as a chemical pregnancy, it is probably too early to determine that because usually the levels increase and then remain the same or decrease over a few days, so it usually takes multiple betas to determine that. Please don’t worry too much. Right now it is just a waiting game and you don’t want to stress yourself out too much. Please keep us updated on your progress.
Cherry - if you got a positive at 6dp5dt then I would say that is a definite positive. Your trigger shot should have been out of your system by that day. If you are still getting a line I wouldn't think it would be a chemical but there is always a chance of that. I don't know why clinics try and scare people. I have always gotten the feeling they believe the are a "secret society" and only they can tell us if we are pregnant or not.
Good Luck!!

The worst thing about testing early is that quite a few embies implant and then die almost right away. So you can get a positive test, but by the time your beta rolls around, it's already decreased and the hcg is on it's way down. This is a chemical pregnancy, and I've had several. They are discouraging, but almost 50% of all pregnancies result in an early miscarriage. Your chances are a lot better if you are getting good results after your period is due, and then when you see a heartbeat. If all is good at 10-12 weeks, your chances of miscarriage drop to around 5%.
I am a horrible early tester. Always do it, always will. However, I am well prepared for the worst and know the facts, so I don't let my emotions get too carried away even if it's positive. Last time I had great betas and ended up finding out we had a blighted ovum. Ugh. To me you never know for sure until you see the heartbeat.

Cherry - I am so sorry that now you are having doubts. I agree that it is so very hard early in the pregnancy but you have to stay positive. I think the good news is that you have a positive HPT. So enjoy that right now!
it is a good sign if nothing else just two days to go till my beta and still a very strong posative, i dont think i will be able to relax more untill i hear a heart beat i am lucky im only 27 so i do still have time on my side, theres just so much heartache involved, I always thought you grow up have a baby and be a mummy, but then you realise things dont alwasy work out that way. all this said im staying posative, i had a rough day yesterday and today is better im not so tired and my 2 weeks is almost over so my fingers are crossed and my toes and every thing else xxxxxxx
I tested the day before my blood test 11dp3dt and got a BFN, I was trying to "prepare myself for the worst". I could not believe when the doctor called with my results, that is was BFP and my numbers continued to double. Even though sadly at 8 weeks we had no heartbeat, I still got pregnant. I am mainly saying this to say the HPT's can be wrong, but I will test again for IVF #2 in August. , thats just how am!
well my clinic confirmed it was a bfp! im having my ultrasound on the 15th fingers crossed for a heart beat
im over the moon after all the stress with the false posative doubts thats my first hurdle over with now on to the scan ...........
