Wine during stims? Or not?

Post by karin1 »

HI Ladies,

I am on stim day 4 and would LOVE to have a small glass of wine. Is it a bad idea? I don't plan to....but really want to. It's been a stressful day.

I honestly don't think it could possibly hurt, but all clinics have an absolute NO ALCOHOL when it comes to the process. They have to. How many of us on here really 'need' a glass or two or three to get through the day? It's not like if someone has an issue with alcohol they are going to tell their fertility doctor, right? The docs can't tell women to just have a little, because that 'little' may be just three glasses instead of five.

My doctor, who was very progressive and a mom herself, told me that is the main reason docs have a zero tolerance for alcohol - because so very many people will take a mile if given an inch. I enjoy a glass of wine or a beer with clam a couple times a week, but I refrain just because it's SO much money and SO much emotion invested in this that I want to do everything in my power to do what I need to do... even though I don't really think it would hurt.

It's your decision.... but if you can, opt for some chocolate, some really good fruit juice and a hot bubble bath with candles if possible. Not the same, but still good!

During stims, I was told if I wanted to have a glass of wine, I would go right ahead. However, if I was going to have a whole bottle of wine, that was a different story. Once it got to be time for retrieval, obviously that changed.

Thanks ladies for your replies! I actually did good and refrained from drinking. I really wanted to though. I'm not a big drinker anyway. I only have a small 4oz glass of red wine before bed sometimes. I actually measure it. I've read that 8 oz is okay and thought that if I cut it in half it would be fine.

Sonya, I appreciate your quick response and reading it actually kept me from having my tiny glass. I don't need it....just wanted it. I found out that my ex-husband's girlfriend is preggo. He's 40 and she's 25. We ttc for a little while, with no extreme measures and obviously didn't succeed. They weren't trying and now she's knocked up. They do live together and have been for over a year. I am trying to be happy for him because I know that he wants kids. It's just really hard to hear when I'm trying so hard.

Thanks again for your support! Have a great day! :D

Glad you did what made you feel the best afterwards! LOL Sometimes our short term goals don't really line up with our long term goals.

Ugh on the ex and his teeny bopper! I mean it's nice that he is going to experience fatherhood, but it would be a little nicer for you if she were at least in the same decade as him. If she didn't still listen to Brittney Spears and read Cosmo. If she knew how you never really hit maturity until at least 30 and then at 35 start to act like we have... ;) I don't even know how old you are but I'm hoping you find humor in what I'm saying.
