ghost?

Post by Kacie »

After my egg retrieval, we were not able to go forward with the transfer due to abnormal embryos found through PGD. (my husband has a balanced translocation) i had a normal period after the retrieval, but have not had another since then. I am now going on 47 days with no period. I am usually a little irregular, but never this severe. I have contacted my dr and am waiting to hear back but i am concerned. Is this normal? what needs to happen in order for my period to be back to normal? just thought maybe you could help.

I'm not sure what the reason for it is, but I've read many posts of irregular periods immediately following IVF. It seems to be pretty common. I'll try to ask one of the docs if I get a chance.

It appears to be due to disturbances in the hypothalamic-pituitary axis, with the elevated levels of estradiol and progesterone affecting the hypothalamus and the receptors on the pituitary needing to regenerate after exposure to Lupron (or other GnRH agonist). It can take awhile to return to normal.

Thank you so much for the answer. My dr was not able to provide me with one, just that it was common. Still no period. Hopefully i will get one soon or they will have to prescribe me something to get it going. I really appreciate your help.
