As for weaning, she was so little when she was born, she never could quite latch on for an extended amount of time. I basically am pumping 6-7 times a day and bottle feeding her and supplementing with formula. Weaning won't be an issue, as she already prefers the bottle to the boob. Now weaning her off the bottle . . . ugh . . . haven't staretd to think about that one quite ye t . . .
Hi everyone! It is so great to see these updates. My little Samantha just turn 3 months last Wednesday and is 11lbs 11oz. We do have her on a schedule now but let her set it (it's pretty typical). She takes a morning nap around 8:30 and an afternoon nap around 1:00, which is her longer nap. We put her down between 7:00 and 7:30, and her nighttime feeding/waking varies. She usually wakes up once, but there are times she sleeps through. Everything I've read says she should sleep 10-11 hours at night and nap for about 4 hours, split into two naps. That's working really well for her.
I too am a teacher and had enough days to take off the rest of the school year. I go back August 2nd.
As for weaning, I'm planning to do that at the one-year mark.

Deftones: I have read Babywise but there has been a lot of controversy about the author and his methods. My friend sent me some information about that, but I just read it and didn't take it too literally. I have heard the term "dream feed" but don't really understand what that is? Savannah will wake up around 4-5 and eat but when I get her out of the basinnet her eyes are open, then she eats with her eyes closed and doesn't open them when I put her back to bed. Ange: Thanks for the FB post. Yes you are lucky!! As far as weaning from the breast, maybe at 12 months. I had thought earlier because we want to do IVF again, and I obviously cannot take the drugs while nursing, but it looks like we're going to need to wait awhile because of money-UGH! It's so damn expensive! When are you weaning?
Dogz: Sounds like your schedule is really working for her. I need to get better at putting her down early! She is use to several naps during the day and staying up at night so her Daddy spend some time with her...until 10ish...but then she sleeps in the morning...guess it works for us, because I'm NOT a morning person. She is getting 14-16 hours of sleep a day still.
I need to make a ticker...any suggestions on sites?
Hi Tia . . . You're in Stevenson Ranch? Cool. I'm in Glendale. Where did you go for IVF? Just added you on FB =) I tried to the Babywise method for a few weeks, but found it to be too restrictive and rigid . . . now we have more of a routine with Grace . . . she gets up, eats, plays, gets changed, and goes down for a nap~all based on her cues and not a schedule . . . not really on a consistent nap schedule . . . I just let her sleep she gets fussy, but not longer than 2 hours . . . she seems to be awake for an hour before she gets fussy and then I put her down for a nap . . . sleeps anywhere from 20 min-2 hours . . .may try and do a schedule when I go bak to work later this summer . . . dream feeding is when you do a later night or early morning feeding (usually 10pm-4am) when baby is asleep (eyes are closed), but she will still take a bottle or breastfeed without waking up . . . I put Grace down around 7 and then give her a bottle around 10 while she sleeps . . . she cries at 2 and at 5, but doesn't really wake up . . . eyes closed and eats and goes back to sleep . . . gets up around 8-ish . . . the biggest challenge right now is getting her settled and asleep at night . . . down at 7 pm and she sleeps on and off until 9 and then she's down for the night, but sometimes she fusses on and off for two hours! I think we're going to start a bedtime routine~bath, bottle, book, and then bed ...hopefully, she'll pick up on the bedtime cues and fall asleep faster . . . all in all, as long as she's getting 14-18 hours of sleep a night, I'm happy =)
DO you guys have Gymboree in your city? It's like a Mommy and me class. DD and I started going and we are having a blast! They offer a trial class for free. Check it out if you have the time =)
Oh sorry on my question I meant weaning on to solids. Freddie is formula fed because i did not have hardly any milk and it was not working! The WHO organisation says no solids before 6 months but Freddie has a reflux issue and can't keep milk down without gaviscon and the doctor said 'while I can't reccomend weaning early, weaning will sort the problem out so talk to your health visitor.'
So I went to see the health visitor who said that we can wean once he is over 17 weeks and is starting to wake in the night for a feed on a regular basis. At the moment he sleeps through and so his milk is enough. I don't want to wean too soon but most people I know have introduced solids at around the 4 month stage.
I have bought Gina Fords book of weaning and it is quite interesting. I am also going to a 'weaning party' where they provide lots of info on weaning later this month.
deft - I don't know if it is the same but we have been going to baby bounce groups where there is lots of singing, instruments, etc and baby explorers which is more free play with different activities each week for 0 - 18 months. They are brilliant. They are provided in the UK by sure start centres and are mainly free or very minimal cost. I have signed up for a few courses with them too.

I went to Dr. Michael Vermesh in Tarzana...how about you? I haven't tried gymboree classes but my friend does a kindermusic class...probably similar. I myself am starting to teach a new baby sign language class in the next couple of months if you're interested. It will be at my house in SR. So glad you added me on FB..can't wait to see your pictures. By the way, I went to tickerfactory and made a ticker and pasted it to my signature...but it still isn't working. Any suggestions? I'm probably doing it wrong!
Ange: As far as starting solids I really have no idea...I think our doctor suggests starting rice cereal at 4 months, but I think he'll say 5 1/2 months for Savannah because that is her corrected age at the normal 4 month mark.
Tia: I'm north of the Glendale Galleria, off of Brand . . . I went to Dr. Pisarska at Cedars-Sinai . . . I would love to join your class! Just let me know when . . . as for tickerfactory, it took me a couple of tries to get it right . . . just keep at it . . .

deft, interesting you say that if they are an advanced weight. Do you know what that would be? Freddie is on the 91st percentile and was 16lb 6oz last week and gains about 1/2lb a week (he has averaged that gain since birth). So by the time he is 18 weeks he may be near 19lb if he carries on!

Just thought I would join your thread... Our little boy was born 3/3/2010 and weighed in at a whopping 10 lbs 4 oz. He is just over 4 months now and just so interested in everything. He has been sleeping through the night for about a month, so we are super-lucky. Especially considering he is still on breastmilk only. I am pumping and we give him his meals in a bottle so we can track how many ounces he has each day. Considering starting cereal soon given his size. We are just so happy to have our little boy. I still have moments where I can't beleive he's really here given all that we went through to have a baby. Everyone was right about how quickly you just fall in love with your child. So glad to hear that each of you are doing well and were blessed with healthy babies. I must return to work, but will do my best to stay current on the thread. For some reason, I find that I do not have the time that I used to
