I am about to embark down the IUI road. I need to get all the information possible, please. I will be paying out of pocket, there is no insurance, unfortunately .
Please enlighten me as to everything I will be facing as far as costs, the steps, medication. Etc.....
My situation is that my fertility is ok at 35. My DH has only 3 mill. Normal sperm and the rest are abnormal. He had a varicocele surgery 1 year ago. He had a 99 % Abnormal sperm and now he has that 3 mill Normal. Would we even qualify for an IUI? I feel so lost
Hi MarsLeon,
My husband and I had 6 IUI's -- all out of pocket. I took Clomid on most cycles, except one cycle which I requested to be "natural, " meaning no meds, because I am in good health. I just wanted to try. We used donor sperm for all of them because my husband is older and had a bout with cancer. I do not know what you would qualify for -- but I found the IUI's not invasive at all. More like a pap smear. It was hard to make the decision to use donor sperm, but we don't regret it. We were told that most people get pregnant (if they are taking clomid) within the first 3 tries, if they are going to. They didn't advise more than 3 cycles. We got pregnant on the 2nd cycle (but I miscarried, sadly). We tried another round of cycles post miscarriage...not successful. We are now doing IVF.
The Clomid can really make you a little crazed-- irritable and moody-- I was "on edge" during the time that I took it. But my clinic advised taking the meds at night, and that *really* helped.
I wish you well on the journey.
Best wishes.

I am paying out of pocket as well. Welcome to the club!!!!!!! it is so expensive. The first time around when I got pregnant with our daughter, I also paid cash. Good thing I got pregnant on the second try. However, I am much older now so I think it is going to take a while longer and more money. Good luck and lots of baby dust.
