lt81 - You just made me laugh remembering my FET cycle. We didn't tell anyone about that cycle so to keep the drugs hidden in our house I put everything into one of those boxes that look like a book and put it out in the open on our book shelves! There were several book options to choose from. Our subtle selection: Moby Dick! I would make a terrible secret agent...

My huge box o' drugs is sitting on the piano in our dining room! Last ivf we told very few people...tried to stack things in front of the tower of gonal f in the fridge. Hid the huge box of the other drugs & needles under my bed...felt like I was some drug addict stashing my goods! I remember having visitors over (think it was Thanksgiving wknd) & I was just starting gonal f. I quickly got the pen, ran upstairs to our room only to freeze when I opened it up! Didn't remember what the heck to do with it! I had to sneak to the computer room to watch the video tutorial a few times! Good times.
after this reading this thread last night, thought I should get to grips with my drugs, so opened them all up and read the leaflets.
I have a load of needles and syringes for the Menopur but the Cetrotide (the antagonist I think?) comes with water preloaded in a syringe to mix with the powder and then draw back up. The clinic have given me an Autoject pen to do the injections with - does anyone know if the pre-loaded Cetrotide syringes and needles will work in it?
Also - Cetrotide instructions talk about putting the needle in, drawing up a little bit and if blood comes up, throw it all away and start again - anyone know why? I only have 7 so can't just chuck one down the sink!

lt81 - I thought that the autoject pens come with their own cartridges with special needles on them to work with the pens. I had one for my Follistim, and I think both the drug and the needles were specifically designed to work with the pen.
On the instructions telling you to draw back and check for blood, that is a safety measure to make sure that you are not about to inject yourself directly into a vein. We are obviously not professionals here, and it could be potentially pretty dangerous if you were to inadvertently inject an air bubble into a vein. My understanding is that the chances of this happening are pretty rare - it has never happened to me in 3 cycles - so I don't think you have to worry too much about wasting any of your drug supply.

I hope you do not mind if I join this thread. I had a frozen transfer in July and Wednesday received my BFN. We still have embryo's left so we are jumping right into another cycle. We hope to have our next transfer sometime in September. Dr advised to stop taking crinone and Aunt Flo should arrive. Does anyone know how long it takes after you stop taking progesterone to get your period? Wishing everyone much luck and patience over the next month!

Fresh 2 November 2010:
I am new to the board and will be doing my second IVF cycle in September. Our baseline is the 1st and we start the injections the 3rd. Retrieval should be between the 13 to 17th. I had one failed IVF fresh cycle in May of 2009 and a failed frozen cycle in Sept of 2009.I went through the prior Ivf retrieval with no anesthesia and plan on doing that again although I am pretty nervous about it. I am hoping for a better outcome this time as this really is the last attempt we can financially afford. I was wondering if anyone else had a good result on a second attempt?
We are also trying to keep this attempt very quiet as the last time we got some negative responses with the cycle failing. `The last time the shots left little circles on my stomach looked like a great case of ringworm so maybe I will just tell people we got a furry friend..LOL

Christine - Welcome and I wish you the best of luck! I also had a failed IVF and FET - then got my BFP on my 3rd try with the next fresh cycle. I also had a year off after the FET and before the new cycle. So it's a very real possibility that you could be just a month away from your BFP!! I am sorry to hear that you got "negative responses" from doing IVF. People who don't get it can be such asses. Wow, no anesthesia... I actually kind of liked the fact that I could just wake up to find it all over. If only we could do that for the 2ww, too...

Hi Christine - wow no anaesthesia. I was so relieved when the clinic said they do anaesthesia as standard now for EC. I should have EC around 10-14 September. But I am officially a wimp! I had never had an operation before until my laparoscopy this March, and boy was I terrified!

Hi Jessica!
Were u on the July FET thread?? We did FET mid July, had a bfp beta (no poas for this girl) only to have a bfn beta a few days later. I was on the crinone too, I stopped it on a Monday & AF showed up that Wednesday morning. Once your progesterone drops, AF should show up.
Still on bcp until 8/12, lupron starts 8/10, baseline b/w & u/s 8/16 even if AF doesn't show. Trying to guess how long I'll be on stims for...think it was 8 days during my first ivf? Anyone go longer/shorter?
It81 - Must be your Cetrotide needles are IM (intra-muscular)? I'd ask the doc for a tutorial on using those suckers.
My name is Anna and I am 28 so is DH. We have a 10yr old son Christopher (from my previous marriage) having a house full of children was always a dream for us but after 2 1/2 years of ttc and a year on the adoption waiting list we did our first IVF in June/July and even though we only got 4 eggs (Lupron oversuppressed me) we got our BFP. Unfortunately we had a m/c and are now waiting to do this again in Sept. This will be a fresh cycle for us since we had nothing to freeze last time. My RE is confidant that we can get a lot more eggs this time...I hope so. I am still bleeding from the M/C and will have to have another AF still before we can proceed but we are very eager to move forward since this was such a positive and at the same time such a sad experience. So here we are waiting to start sometime in the third week of September.
Sonya I am so happy to see you here and I hope this round goes much better for the both of us

Hi Anna. Sorry to hear that your last cycle ended that way. I will probably be starting the end of September also, an FET this time. My first cycle didn't go well either because they didn't have the meds right. Even though I felt totally cheated by how the followup appointment went they did make a number of small changes and I could really tell the difference in how the stim went. I'm sure they will get it right for you this time around!
