When to try again after miscarriage...

Post by rlk1 »

Hi all,

Question for anyone who has suffered a miscarriage...or anyone else who knows...

I had a miscarriage at 10 weeks (D&C was last week--on Aug. 5th). My IVF doc says she wants me to wait until mid-November, the earliest, to try again. WHAT?!? That sounds like such a long wait to me.

I know you other IVF girls can relate. We just wait, and wait, and wait.

My question is, if you've had miscarriage, how long did your doc say you had to wait before you could try again? Did you have a D&C? Do you have to wait longer if you've had a D&C (vs. a natural miscarriage)?

I know I should listen to my doctor. I'm guessing there's a reason she wants me to wait so long. I was just hoping that, if you all respond that you didn't have to wait that long, I could convince her to let me try again a month or so earlier.

Thanks for your help. I hope this post doesn't open up old wounds for people.

Rlk1 - I think this depends on each individual person and how quickly they recover from a miscarriage. I can say that I personally know how you feel. As you can read by my signature, I have lost a lot of babies but when I lost my last daughter at 21 weeks, I wanted to become pregnant right away. So, I spoke with my RE and he said he wanted me to wait until I had a menstrual cycle naturally first before I proceeded, which came right on time (four weeks later). But, unfortunately I received a BFN with the frozen cycle that I tried and looking back on it now, I don't think my body was physically ready to be pregnant again. I should have waited two or three months like your RE is suggesting. But, I think that decision is totally up to you and your DH.

I am so sorry to hear of your m/c but please take time to grieve and then make your decision on what to do.
