2 year old twin boys not yet talking..

Post by mdockery »

Hello! I have 2 year old twin boys that are not yet talking.
Here is a little about us...successful IVF lead to twin pregnancy..boys were born @ 34 weeks.
They have been slightly delayed in crawling, walking etc...however not enough to cause concern.
I am however concerned that they are not yet talking. They understand everything I say and can complete tasks.
They try to repeat words, but what they repeat do not sound like real words.
They can say Momma, Pappa, hi, bye and bubble...everything else sounds the same.

I took them in for a speach evaluation earlier this week. I am still awaiting a diagnosis.

Just wondering if any other twin mommies or mommies in general have expierenced this same thing. Any thoughts and advice are welcome!

Hi

I am not in your position as my ds is only 4 months. However, my niece who is 2 this month only says a few basic words and the rest is a mumble like you describe. No-one has been concerned about this and in fact her sister was the same. Her sister does very well in class now at 8 and is in the top 5 in her year.

My twin niece/nephew were born at 36 weeks and didn't speak until they were about 2 1/2yrs old. They didn't have speech therapy and are doing fine now. They are 3yrs old now. I do have a couple of friends whose children started speech therapy at the age of 2. How did the evaluation go? I guess if speech is free, why not do it. Where in the country are you? Is it offered free?

We live in Arkansas and yes if they qualify for ECI than the speach therapy is free. I just recieved the evaluations back today. One of my boys qualifies for speach therapy and the other does not. I feel both boys are on the same level, but I believe Miles simply tested better. He was more cooperative than Sullivan. So, I will send Sullivan to therapy as they reccommend and hopefully it will rub off on Miles. I have noticed little changes every day. I am reading them a ton of books and make them ask for things..even if it doesn't really sound like real words, they are getting used to the back of forth of normal conversation. :)
