Help me pick a clinic...what would you do?

Post by lynniecat »

I plan to cycle soon. I had a successful cycle at Shady Grove clinic in MD, but I have moved to CA. Shady Grove cuts you off at 43 and 9 months. I just turned 44. However, my RE there said I could cycle since I beat the odds before.

I also looked at a local clinic (fertility physicians in San Jose). Its a much smaller clinic (5 doctors vs 20 or so) but their rates on smaller numbers are similar to shady Grove.

The doctor in San Jose said I should only use them if I feel comfortable if the cycle would fail (in other words, she is worried I would stress and think I should have used Shady Grove). She feels confident eh care will be the same and said in many ways retrieval and transfer are not that difficult and the real factor is the patient. I really like her a lot.

However, Shady Grove has done many more IVF cycles and I know their lab worked for me.

I have one shot and I know the chances are low, but I want to at least try...

Any thoughts on which I should got with... the one that is close of the one I have to fly 3000 miles to cycle?

Thanks in advance!

Just some thoughts based on pregnancy rates and California:

San Diego Fertility Center

https://www.sartcorsonline.com/rptCSR_P ... cPKID=2143

Southern California Reproductive Center

https://www.sartcorsonline.com/rptCSR_P ... cPKID=2403

The latter is run by Mark Surrey. You already know his brother.
Avoid IVF and surrogacy in Ukraine. Ukrainian centers pay shills to post here under numerous sock accounts pretending to be patients in Ukraine. Centers using such deceptive advertising cannot be trusted and should be avoided.

Yep, know his brother....not a fan. Oh well.

The one nice thing about fertility physicians is its a mile from my house. I don't have to worry about having someone watch my daughter during the ultrasounds, bloodwork appts. My husband does not have enough time off to travel, but I can as I am a SAHM right now. So I think if I was gonna travel anywhere, I may as well go to Shady Grove as I have friends in the area to stay with, etc.

The Sart site shows that 1 44 year old got pg at FP last year, but they have a lot less patients that age. If I had money for two rounds, I might try one locally and if I had any hope, do the second at SG. Hmmm, maybe I should do that. I would need to knock on my older brother's wallet though...

There is a website called The Gregor Library. The website is a library of searchable FDA inspection reports, which contain FDA inspections of IVF/ Fertility clinics. It is a good idea to see if any of the clinics that you are considering have been cited for any regulatory violations. BTW...the search of documents is free. www.gregorlibrary.com

Lynniecat,

I remember you from a year and a half ago on the forum.... This is a tough decision to make.. I think you need to go with your gut instinct as you don't want to look back and say I wish I would have or wouldn't have done something... I think the answer lies within you. I hope that helps. I also had success and now I am trying to figure out if I need to try again... I don't want to have an regrets by waiting too long.

I remember you too. I strongly recommend Dr Eways at Kaiser in Sta Clara. My OB recommends RSC in San Jose. Stay away from PFC in san Francisco. Check out Kaisers success rates for Fremont location. PM me if you want! I did tons of research to find a clinic around here.
