Hello Everyone!
I am new at all of this, IVF as well as message boards, but needed a place to chat with others with similar complications. I am currently under-going my first round of IVF and started my gonal-f stimulant last night along with the lupron injection that I have been doing for the past 2 weeks. I have a tentative date of retrieval for August 30th and hoping for implantation on September 2nd or 4th. I did a round of IUI with gonal-f last month and only had one follicle participate in the action; a huge disappointment to say the least. Prior to the injections I had 5 failed IUIs with clomid. I now have a fear of going through this process and not responding to the medications. None-the-less, it is really great to read everyone’s stories and I find myself thinking of you all in hopes of a wonderful outcome for everyone! Happy weekend to everyone! :D

cushions and fireplaces! wow! I have hard chairs and 2 year old trashy magazines!! I'm thinking of getting the girls at work to donate magazines. Feel bad for the guys - there are absolutely no magazines for them (except the ones in the "little room" ha ha).

Getting closer to starting now. I am hoping to start my Menopur on Friday/Saturday.

Since my last post had a big old chat with hubby and I think we've made a lot of progress. He was feeling excluded because he didn't feel I had spoken to him enough about it and when I did he didn't understand what I was going on about! He's now read one of the books on IVF and surprised himself in how useful he thought it was. He's also agreed to give me my injections, but he is away for atleast one night with work, so I'd best get used to them myself too. My best friends just been diagnosed diabetic so we can shoot up together

Hi everyone. Hope you don't mind me crashing this thread!? I just started my meds on Thursday and am looking at ER around the 30th.

Soccermom - we go to the same clinic in Syracuse...........I am 2 hours away and have been trying for more than a year and 1/2 w/no success. It is nice to see that it does work for some that are going there. How do you feel about the clinic? Lately, I feel like I get a different answer to the same question depending on who I talk to and rarely is it the Dr.

I just had Laparoscopy/hysterocopy (sp?) on Tuesday and was cleared to start another fresh cycle this thursday!! My story is different from most everyone's on this site because I had a tubal liagation more than 12 years ago due to a bad and abusive marriage. I have since married a wonderful man, who has adopted my 2 children but has no biological children. Everything is perfect with the exception of my cut tubes but have had no success. This is our 6th IVF cycle (4th fresh and 2 FET). I feel like I am being punished for my decision I made so many years ago.................

Well, I am just rambling on now. Thanks for listening to me!!

Anissabug

Welcome, I understand. My first marriage was similar and my husband was arrested for deomestic violence, I had one wonderful little boy from that marriage which came so easy to me (first try) well that was 10 years ago and I have long remarried and now that I am in a perfect marriage with a wonderful man who adopted my son we just can't ween to succeed. It has been 3 years since we started this journey and even though all the tests came back great except for dh's slight morphology no luck. 4 iui's 1 IVF/ miscarriage and we are still here. Anyways I have often thought that this was my punichment for waiting 7 years to try for another child so you are not alone.

Annissabug - wow! What a small world! Since you live a far distance from cnyfert, you must deal a lot with the out of town coordinators like I do. With my first ivf, for whatever reason, after they'd receive info from my local Dr monitoring me, I only spoke with one particular nurse - and I never felt rushed off the phone, she'd answer all my crazy questions, & was in general a very nice person. This time, I've been lucky to have her most of the time...but there have been a few calls with other nurses who are nowhere near as nice & I just feel as though they are rushing to get through the conversation & on to their next call. Maybe it's me, who knows? Other than that, I've been thrilled with my experience with them. I've also gone next door to the healing arts center for acupuncture - only one time, after transfer with the fresh round. Have you done all 6 of your ivfs with that office??

Dawgs & Amanda - how are the shots going? I'm a little bruised from one of my menopur shots...not sure why. My abdomen feels super squishy & I kind of feel a little weighed down. My mother in law is visiting this wknd - that's kind of weighing me down too

Anna - have your hcg levels dropped yet??

Wow, lots of action and new people! Welcome amanda1027, anissbug, and hopefullintime!

amanda1027 - Did your RE explain why he is sticking with the same gonal-f when you didn't have good results with it for your last IUI? I understand why you would be feeling nervous. Don't feel like you have to accept what your RE says without question. If the results during your monitoring aren't progressing as you think they should be, ask why and if there's anything they could be changing to make it work better. I know now I should have been more insistent that they reduce my doses much more than they did during my first round when I was close to OHSS. I questioned it in my head but felt too intimidated to question the experts. My next fresh IVF round the doses were reduced by 50-75% - and it worked.

soccermom - That's so cool that your doctor has a picnic like that! I wish more practices would really embrace IVF as something to celebrate instead of something to be ashamed about. And I am also totally jealous of the "spa-like" atmosphere. Mine is nice and sunny, but most emphatically a typical doctor's office waiting room.

lt81 - Glad to hear you had a good talk with your husband. See my comments to hopefullintime on the shots - I'm sure you will have no problem doing them yourself, but it's great that your husband is willing to help out!

anissabug/annashope - You both need to stop feeling like it's your fault or you are being punished - easier said than done, I'm sure. As you can tell from the variety of different stories, we are all here for different reasons. But I cannot believe that there is any larger force in this universe that is cruel enough to have wished this on us for anything that we did "wrong." You sound like very strong women to have come through that with enough positivity to still find happiness with the right person. The last piece will fall into place at the right time - presumably this September!!

hopefullintime - I found it much easier to do the subcutaneous shots myself. The needles are very small and usually don't hurt much if at all. The size of the intramuscular needle for the PIO freaked me out so I did have my husband give me that one initially - because of his work had to do it myself eventually though. The nurse drew a circle on me so we knew where to stick it. For me the actual needle going in (for any of them) didn't hurt as much as pushing in the hormones. The PIO ones got less painful after the nurse told me I could use a shorter needle because I was very thin at the time, so that option may be there if you are finding them too painful.

AFM - Shockingly, still no sign of AF. So excited to hear from the rest of you who are already doing shots or are about to start! Good luck to you tomorrow, annashope, I feel your frustration in not being able to get on with it!!

anissabug/annashope I completely second everything Soccermom just said. You have both been through much and come through strong to find wonderful men in your lives. It is cruel that when you have found happiness you now have this obstacle in your way, but nothing any of us have ever done have resulted in us having to go through this - especially being the victim of domestic violence.

I've just come back from my general practitioners office having had a PAP smear and they had real difficulty finding my cervix. The nurse when I had the chlamydia (sp?) test to start IVF also had issues. They never used to have issues when I was younger - anyone know if your cervix can move as you get older? I'm wondering if my laparoscopy might have moved it as no-one had issues finding it in the checks a few weeks before the laparoscopy. I might ask Ghost - who is Ghost by the way??

Hi girls,
I am back from a 3-week vacation and the tread grows up to 100. It is amazing! I am happy to have so many people to share this new experience with me. I had a refreshing vacation. Both my hub and I are totally relaxed and ready for our first IVF.

Going to take my last pill on 26 August, will start my first Puregon shot on 1 Sep and the first Orgalutran shot on 4 Sep. Have an appointment to take blood and echo on 6 Sept. Don’t know what will happen but hope everything going fine.

Talk to you soon again

Hi girls,
Soccermom and It81 thank you so much for your kind words I really appreciate it and I know that I should not blame myself (I try not to) but it is hard sometimes. I had my son at 18 and it was so easy (the raising was harder...lol) but now that I am 28 and my baby sis is 18 and pregnant it is just a constant reminder of what was

Emma welcome back!

Wondercat I know what you mean, this past cycle my period was 5 days late and it is never late but that had to happen just to frustrate us...ah the irony when we want it it is late but when we don't want it it is early

Hopefulintime I also did my subcutaneous shots myself but the PIO DH did. For PIO I used a numbing cream and iced the area for 15-20 mins and the shot was painless

dawgs good luck with the u/s :D

AFM sorry if I am a Debby downer today but I just feel so frustrated....So we had our beta and ultrasound today (it has been 3 weeks since my confirmed m/c) and we have been trying to figure out why my beta has not dropped faster but is just crawling down..well you can imagine our shock when we found a second embie still in there also not properly developed and so it seems that this was twins one of which I lost 3 weeks ago and the other I still have to m/c in the next week so. My beta is now down to 444 and RE still want to wait and let me pass it on my own because of the abdominal cerclage. Anyways I just can't imagine this is happening!!! the first miscarriage was so bad and it has taken us 3 weeks to start looking forward to the future only to find out that we have to relive it again.....so unfair

wow Emma lucky you what i'd give for a 3 wk holiday right now 8) hope you had a fab time, best of luck

anissabug/annashope wat amazing ladies you are, Just keep all that courage and strenght you have going :D

it81 as far as I am aware everything in there has a mind of its own and moves every where, all my insides are all over the place according to my last lap and U/S your doctor should offer a dummy test before you commence I have had just had this done it only takes 5 mins and pain free, My Doc also told me that the more lap done the more scar tissue and adhesions can be left behind so try and avoid them if possible, good luck with the pap results

Soccormom so happy to hear all is going well ill be praying the rest of the way that everything keeps going this way

Annashope oh my god what a really tough ride you have had, like this treatment isnt hard enough you have had to go through please god as hard as it is it passes soon and you can start looking to the future of a new and lucky cycle my sincere sympaties to you and DH X keep your head up and your heart strong

I am getting really fustrated at the moment my AF still has not arrived the only time in my life that I want the AF to arrive and it doesn't, I really just want to get started :( how bad is the day 2 scan im dreading it, my AF is so heavy I dont go outside until it goes !! I don't think it is the hurting part of the injections im worried about its more the sticking a needle into my self makes me squeamish there not that big but still yuck :!: How long does the cycle take until EC & ET, Oh and prob a silly question but what is beata :?:

Anna - I guess that explains the hcg #s not falling any faster :( . I'm so sorry. I can't begin to imagine the shock of finding that info out today. Now your questions are answered & the good news is you can move on from here. Is your Dr talking at all about doing a D&C? I opted to have one after my m/c @ 8 wks, b/c I just wanted to move on & know that I'd have a 'clean slate' so to speak. Don't get me wrong, I mourned the passing emotionally...but physically wanted to have some control over the situation. You will get through this, the sun will still rise tomorrow...I promise.
