I posted this in the Fall Cycle Group thread but thought I would post it here because I know everyone doesn't read in that thread and we would like input.
Dh had his sperm aspiration this a.m. It went well. They were able to do it all w/ a needle. They got 5 vials of sperm. The doctor was very pleased with the amount of sperm they were able to get. The motility is only 2% though. They said that that is common when you do MESA but he had to tell us that there is a chance we could get to egg retrieval and then have no sperm with which to fertilize if they don't make it through thawing process. He said it's uncommon but there is that chance.
He also said we could choose to unthaw one vial before we need it just to see how they do. If that vial does well, then most likely all the other vials will do well too.
Do you have any thoughts or input on this?
Thanks a bunch
Nancy

Hi Nancy,
Do you mean TESA? If so, my DH had it and they retrieved 7 vials. We have never had a problem with them thawing - each vial has many sperm and we used them for an IVF with ICSI - each egg only needs one sperm that way so we never had any problems. I have had one vial thawed for each IVF and they never needed to thaw another.
If MESA is different then TESE then I am sorry if I confused you!
Good luck! Michelle
My hubbs had this done last June and I am now pg with our first baby. He had a vasectomy 12 years ago and got 7 viles of sperm. I am guessing you are doing IVF with ICSI where you only need 1 sperm. This is what we did and it worked! We have 7 frozen embies. Good luck
Thanks for your input. I really appreciate it. I asked dh and he said he's fairly certain what he had was called MESA. I think we have it written on paperwork around here somewhere.
Yes we are doing IVF with ICSI.
Congrats! on your baby. How exciting.
