Struggling to remain positive

Post by thetowers »

Hi all

ET on 5/5, 2 embryos. Have been positive all way through treatment but now convinced this will not work. Hospital advised me to take HPT on 21st. Already done three (8th, 11th and today) all negative. Trying to adopt PMA but think my defence mechanisms kicking in and feeling really deflated. Can anyone advise should i wait until 21st to take another test or sooner? (Have another three to use)

Jan.x
me 38, DP 35. 1st try at IVF, EC 3/5 6 eggs, ET on 5/5 2 embryos, nil for freezing.

Hi Jan!

You are a naughy girl testing early!!! All you have done is convinced yourself the tmt hasn't work. The reason they tell you to test on a certain date is because testing earlier will not be accurate. MANY girls have tested too early, yet gone on to find they are pg! So don't give up hope yet.

Please take my advice and hide the other three hpts until the 21st and then see what happens. Testing early just makes you sad.....and drives you nuts!! I know the 2ww is the longest two weeks of your life, but trust me testing early just makes things even worse!

Try and keep some PMA and I'll keep everything crossed for you that it works!

love nikola

ps July Ann - is QUEEN of the HPTS - she wil tell you nothing good comes of testing early!!!!

Taking the Home pregnancy tests is a total waste of time until at least 14 days after et. I had a positive and was still shoing negative on the eve of the 14 day - they just arent sensitive enough to pick up the HCG until then. blood tests are more sensitive and should be able to detect HCG on the 12th day after et - if you really cant wait!!

Take care

thx Caz, going to wait until Wed 2 do another then Friday for the real thing. Just have to keep positive but this is definitely the worst bit of the whole treatment. Hasn't helped being off on holiday all week, mooching around bored wondering and waiting for some sign! Come off cyclogest tonight and will be terrified in case dreaded AF arrives shortly after.

Amazing that i have found out so much information from this message board than anything been told at hospital or read in books!

Take care.

Janice :)
