Ghost - how long to miscarry?

Last Thursday, at exactly 8 weeks, my baby still measured 6 weeks and the heartbeat had stopped.

The doctor told me to stop taking all my medications (Estrofem and PIO) and to come back when I thought I had miscarried everything. Then they would check that my uterus was empty and we could talk about planning the next FET.

I had been spotting on Thursday, so we had figured that was the start of the miscarriage. But the spotting stopped before I even got home.

All weekend, I've had NO bleeding or cramping. (In fact, I'm throwing up more than ever and feel just as 'pregnant' as before).

I know I should call my clinic, but they will just tell me to wait some more. (The doctor had mentioned that if by next week the miscarriage wasn't complete, we would need to discuss medication/D&C.)

How long does it usually take for a miscarriage to start after the baby has died and I stopped the PIO? The waiting is killing me.

Leorira- I am so sorry for your loss. In the spring I had a miscarriage and once I stopped taking all meds it took 11 for me to start miscarrying. I was 7 wks, 3days. I only bled for 3 days, and spotted a few more after that and then my miscarriage was complete.

This cannot be predicted. Sometimes they miscarry on their own. I suppose they all would if given enough time. But if it does not happen within several days, my clinic does the same as yours, and does the D&C so we can all move forward.

Absent progesterone, the pregnancy will miscarry. But the sac/placenta is very likely still making hCG, and hCG causes your follicles to release progesterone. Hence you would still "feel pregnant" if you still have an active corpus luteum (the gland that remains after a follicle releases an egg).

By 8-10 weeks, the placenta starts making its own progesterone, too.

so sorry to hear this....in 2008, my baby's heart stopped beating too at like 10 weeks...i stopped all meds and waited 2 weeks and nothing happened..i ended up having to get a d&c....sorry this happened to you.
