Question on IVF cost

Post by Shellyann »

Hi everyone...I am new to these boards because I am facing the fact that I may need IVF. I have two questions. Is is possible to do IVF with your natural cycle as opposed to having to take all these drugs? My problem is with my tubes and nothing else. I hate the idea of taking a ton of drugs that could increase my ovarian cancer risk. Can't they use my egg that occurs naturally?

Also, as far as cost goes...how much of the cost of IVF is with the medications? In the U.S., they say that the total cost for a cycle is around $8,000. I'm curious as to how much of that is drugs.

My prayers are with everyone trying to concieve.

Thanks!

Shelly,

My situation is a little different from yours but here is the cost run down we faced. About $2,000.00 of the total cost was drugs. However, we were lucky enough that our insurance covered that part. We ended up paying $125.00 for the medication! :D The fertility issue is with my DH so he had to have surgery to retrieve sperm which cost $2,000.00. Also, ICSI cost more which was our only option. I hope this info. is helpful. Good luck to you. All in all, our process cost $10,000.00 total.

As far as the natural cycle question, not sure if that is an option. Ultimately, my Dr. was trying to boost my folicle count so we could get as many embryos as posssible to increase our chances and do multiple transfers if necessary. Unfortunately for us, only two foliciles fertilized and although the fertility concern is not with me, I did not achieve pregnancy.

Hi!

There is something called a 'monitored cycle' which some clinics offer in the UK.

This is basically where you skip the down reg, take a few shots of stim (I had 3 days worth of Profasi). They scan you to see when your're likely to ovulate, and the give you the HCG (if you need it), then it's DIY for you and your DH/DP!!! It's less drugs, much faster than a true IVF cycle, but less control means less predictability.

I'm sure there will be some clinics in the States/Canada where they provide this option.

Hope that helps.
