twin mamas come in

Post by dolo977 »

I know there are a few people expecting twins on this board. Just wanted to see how everyone is doing and how things are progressing.

I am 28 weeks today and still on bed rest. My only complaints right now other then the growing pains is the increased back and hip pain, heartburn and carpel tunnel in my hands. Ouch! I have also had an increase in BH. Went for my sugar test last week, waiting on the results. I go for an u/s next week. Having my shower this weekend, pretty excited about that.

I must say that I thought it would drag being on bed rest but I find that that is not the case right now. I think the weeks are just flying by now. I Just wanted to check in, say hello and hope all well with everyone. :)

im 37 week w/boy girl twins. i've been put on modified bedrest since 30 weeks. im taking nifedipine to control BH contractions and it works very well. as of 34 week, both babies were weight over 5lb, so i guess they should be over 5.5lb now.

i started to have a serious previc pain since last week, and i feel like my belly is ready to burst anytime. my hip, knees are also very painful now.....i know...i should stop whinning...

i suggest all the twins moms try to rest as much as you can. i think bedrest does work. my cervic was below 2cm at 30 week, since i've been bedrest, it goes back to aound 3cm.

my c-section is next monday, only few more days to go! i really cant wait....

how many of you are going to c-section?

Hi twin moms!! I am 10 weeks pregnant w/ twins. I went today for my first OB appointment since being released from my RE. He told me that I will be on bestrest starting at 26 weeks. It was a bit of a shocker for me I didn't really expect that. I had a great pregnancy w/ my son but i guess it is all precautionary. Did you ladies have similar experiences? I will do what's best for us but I hope if all is going well I am able to get out occasionally for dinner ora qui ck visits.

Hi ladies!! Good to hear from you all. I'm 29 weeks with g/g twins and have been on modified rest since 24 weeks due to BH. Cervix looks good, as does everything else at this point. I go out to dinner occasionally, church, etc... I just make sure I don't stand too long and lay down most of the time. I also drink 2-3 GALLONS of water a day. I have an u/s this friday and am hoping both girls are over or at the 3 pound mark (they were both growing great at my u/s last month). I had my cervical length checked a week ago and it was around 3.5cm, so hopefully it will stay good for a long time! I agree, I really think bed rest helps. I hear so many stories of perfect pregnancies that turn in an instant, but everyday I thank God for one more day and pray they keep cooking for awhile longer.

Since being on bed rest, I've actually not been too uncomfortable. Since I don't stand for long periods of time, I don't have any swelling, though my back and hips do hurt on occasion. Sometimes I feel like they are trying to crush my ovaries to prevent future siblings, but so far I've been able to get them to move. It all depends on the day where they are.

myc - While I MIGHT be able to deliver vaginally, I'm planning on a c-section between 37-38 weeks if I don't go into labor earlier. Baby A has been head down for a long time, but B is head up and she doesn't seem to want to move. She is also the bigger twin, so usually that warrents a c/s. Good luck with yours and CONGRATS on making it so far!!! One week (or less) left!

I wish I COULD have ONE kid. Ha ha ha! Honestly, I'm so happy for you guys. While it's upsetting that you guys are going through "baby pains", it's wonderful that you're going to have two little blessings ever so soon. I can only imagine how different it is to have twins as opposed to one child. I mean, I'm curious because it's actually pretty common for IVF mommies to have twins. Boy, I'll be in for a surprise is that happens. LOL. Good luck and God Bless to you guys!

myc, can't wait to hear how you and your new little ones are doing!! Hope babies and mom are doing well and hope you are recovering quickly from your c section. To answer your question I plan to have a c section as well. The thought of it makes me a little nervous.

KatieG: Happy to hear everything is going well for you! How exciting. Bed rest is very common in twins pregnancies and I think it helps too. I have been on BR since 17 weeks. Just make sure to not over do it in the mean time. :) Good luck with everything!

Babyluv: I just entered my 29th week and also having two girls. Sounds like everything is going great for you! That is wonderful! I agree that bedrest has kept us from swelling, my OB congratulated me the other day for still having ankles. LOL I am curious, have you gotten some strange comments from people when announcing that you are expecting two girls? I have and sometimes I can't believe what people will say.

George30: Welcome, you can get a lot of info on these boards and everyone seems to be very supportive. Are you expecting twins?

Somedaymaybe: I understand what you are saying, it took me a very long time to get preg and had to do IVF. Lots of ups and downs but hang in there and stay positive. :) Good luck!!!!

Hello Ladies,
It was just confirmed on Monday that I am expecting twins. They are due on May 6th. I think I am still in a bit of shock, and not really sure when it will really all sink in. I am SO nervous about everything going okay.
I am beginning to come off of the progesterone now, the RE said my numbers are nice and high so I shouldnt have any problem but if I begin spotting, to take the injection every day again.
Friday I will be entering my 7th week and already I am needing to wear a belly band because I am not able to zip my pants.
The doctor says that is normal since I am only 105 pounds and they will grow quickly.
They will be sending me to a specialist in the next few weeks and the off to my OBGYN. Considering me a high risk because my age along with the twin pregnancy.

Any advice on how to keep the two little ones safe and secure???

Welcome Hopefula37! First I want to congratulate you on your twin pregnancy!!! That is so wonderful. I also conceived through IVF. It took us a few times before being blessed with a successful pregnancy. I am expecting two girls. It is normal to worry and feel nervous but it so important to not let it keep you from enjoying and celebrating this pregnancy. Try not to worry too much about the what ifs because you'll miss out and that is not fair to you, all you can do is take it one day at a time. I will say that the worrying may continue through out your pregnancy, I am in my 29th week and I still worry a bit and I am still in shock, I can not believe I have two babies growing inside me, I am so excited but also can't believe it is happening. To answer your question, I think some good advice for keeping those babies healthy and in as long as possible is to take it upon your self to make sure you rest ( feet up and laying down), avoid stress, drink lots of water and eat well ( a variety of foods containing protein, fiber, veggies, calcium, fruits and fats) try to eat many small meals through out the day or at least snacks in between large meals. Avoid having an empty stomach. Avoid a lot of sodium especially as you progress further along. I believe most importantly that you should now start avoiding too much bending, lifting and over doing it physically. Our bodies are going through a lot of changes with two and sometimes over doing it can cause problems. And last, when in doubt, contact your doctor. :)

These are just some things that were suggested to me by my OB and that have helped me. It can be different for everyone, you will discover what works best for you. Best of luck with everything!!!!

Myc - CONGRATS!! Sounds like the twins are doing beautifully! Hopefully you will recover soon from the c/s. You did awesome mama. Now the fun part starts (well, what you will be able to remember of it anyway!)

Dolo - I get more of reaction out of the fact that these are kids #3 & 4 for us, rather than two girls. I actually bring up how crazy it will be once all three of my girls are in high school and my son is off at college! But yes, people do say crazy things. Having girls is a blessing, having boys is a blessing. Each child is so different and you will have lots of fun with those two...sometimes people are just stupid.

Someday - I hear you for sure. It's a hard, hard road and it seems like nothing is easy. Our first two were adopted and in the grande scheme their adoptions were not that difficult, but were still hard at the time. And of course IVF isn't easy. Best of luck in your journey and hopefully you'll have a baby soon!

Dolo,
Thank you SO much for writing back, I really appreciate you taking the time!
So no bending and try not to over doing it......and eating often, GOT IT! :D

I think evey little cramp and funny feeling at this point gets my attention but I am not stressed to the point of it affecting anything. It just consumes my mind even during work hours....maybe this too will settle down.
I guess at this point I can only do the absolute best that I can to maintain a safe environment for them and take it one day at a time.

I wish I had a magic ball that could tell me if everything will be okay. It's going to be a long 8 months! haha

Hey ladies -

Quick update. Had an u/s today and the girls look great! Amelia is one day behind and weighs in at 2lbs13oz, and Juliette was a day ahead at 3lbs2oz. Cervix is still good around 3.3cm. I still had to go in for an NST afterwards (since it was ordered by my OB - who is on the board of the hospital - and not the high risk clinic, they didn't want to give me a pass...I think they are scared to cross my OB!) and that looked great as well.

So I'm feeling good about things and praying it stays good. 6-8 more weeks!

Oh, and I completely second Dolo's thoughts on rest. I really believe I am not swelling or having cervical issues because of the modified rest. If you can swing it, do it. That and lots of water.

babyluv: that is great news! Happy to hear your little ones are doing fabulous!! Keep up the good work, you are almost there! :)

I also had an ultrasound scan this week which is my 29th, both babies are right around the same weight, about 3 pounds. One is still breech, the other has flipped. poor things are running out of room in there. I asked them if they will continue measuring my cervix and they said no. My last scan 4 weeks ago was the last time. They said because there was no issue and it was at 3.6 cm it is not necessary because it will start thinning out now. I wish they would, because I liked knowing where I was at,. oh well. Also got my flu shot today so I can check that off of my list.

When are you ladies packing your hospital bags and installing your car seats? It is so hard to plan not know when they are coming.

Hope everyone is doing good and enjoy your weekend! :)

Hi Ladies,
Can any of you relate to this? I know they say it is common to have spotting during a twin pregnancy. Well Sunday I started spotting dark brown, not heavy at all, a little more than discharge though. So I scheduled an appointment with the OBGYN. Being only 9 weeks now, I have not had my initial prenatal. I am scheduled for that between my 10th and 12th week. They brought me in for an Ultrasound and both babies are continueing to grow perfectly with heart rates of 170 and 168.
Well it is now Thursday and I am still spotting, a brown discharge.... but no cramping or anything.
It is around the time I typically start my cycle..... Have any of you experienced this?
