Hello to everyone, I need some feedback or any advice, I am 11 weeks pregnant and I started having severe nausea and vomiting since 8 weeks I have lost 8 pound so far, I feel so weak, the OB gave me some meds but no luck so far. The good thing is the baby is ok, I don't know what to do, the Doctor told me today that nausea and vomiting last until 12 weeks.
Any feedback or advice will be appreciate it, thank you.
Jamila – I am sorry that you are having morning sickness. Mine started about 10 weeks and lasted until 12 weeks. For most women, it does last until they are 12 weeks but for some it lasts a little longer. Maybe you should call your physician back and tell him/her that your meds aren't working. They could adjust the dose or change to something else because you definitely don’t want to get too dehydrated. I also went to the maternity store (Motherhood) and bought some Preggie Pops for the nausea. They are all natural with no medication in them. Also I bought anything with ginger to help with the nausea, so I loved the Ginger Snaps … lol. I also hear from many women that pop sickles help also because the cold helps soothe the nausea and helps to prevent dehydration. I sure hope that you feel better soon!
Jamila - I forgot to add that carbohydrates helped to prevent the nausea also. I tried to stay away from carbs but they definitely helped me. Bread, baked potatoes, mashed potatoes, etc.
I had severe morning sickness with my son and the ONLY thing that helped were green apples. I have suggested the same remedy to many of my friends and it was very effective for them as well so give it a try.
BTW I also lost lots of weight in the first trimester and in my whole pregnancy gained 13 lb but my baby was born a healthy 9lb and in the end I had no baby weight to lose at all and was in better shape after my son than before Good luck to you

Ananashope Thank for the advice I will definatlly try the green apple. Lucky you that you didn't gain so much weight during your pregnancy, so you didn't have to worry about loosing anything. whooo you had a big baby boy 9lbs?
Angela I am glad to hear from you, and I cannot believe that you are 26 weeks, so how are you and baby Gabriella?
When come to my nausea and vomiting, my OB put on everything (Reglan, zophran, Promethazine, ginger, B-6) but nothing seem to help, but since I am not dehydrated, they cannot put me on IV, I have follow ups every 3 days I go for a urine test and weight checking. I am hopping a praying that this will stop by week 12 the latest, I am going tomorrow for an u/s to check the baby, I will keep you guys updated and again thank you for your feedback and time.
I will try your advice, and also annashop green apple.
Hey Jamila,
I hope you're starting to feel a little better. My morning sickness started about 10 days ago and I'm now only 8 weeks and I can promise you, I'm so looking forward to week 12 in the hope that promises made by everyone I speak to that it disappears at week 12 come true.
Like you, I've lost about 8 pounds, but since I'm not super skinny to start with, I figure that it's all OK to lose a little bit as long as I'm staying hydrated and my doctor isn't concerned. I'm finding annashope's suggestion of green apples has helped (thanks anna!) and between them and sustagen I feel like I'm getting enough down to maintain my energy levels (I'm still super tired but I figure that's part of the whole thing!). I'm also taking a ginger/B6 supplement - not sure if it helps or not, so I'll keep taking it since it can't hurt!
Kizmet IU have noticed since yesterday that i am doing much better i only vomited 2 times yesterday and not at all today, i will be 12 weeks tomorrow, so i think the 12 weeks of misery is true. I ate today feeling so much better i tried the sea band from walgreen too for the nausea. I am skinny my weight before the vomiting was 124 pounds, as of today i weight 116 i never been that skinny my entire life but i am hoping and praying that i will get my appetite back and put some pound, I wish you the best and i am happy that the green apples are helping, take it easy and take care.
Hi Jamila,
I am 24 weeks pregnant with 2 little girls and have been vomiting since 6 wks...... So there was no relief for me at 12 weeks. If anything the severe nausea went away at around 16 weeks but the vomiting persists. I have only gained 2 lbs so far due to it! My babies are fine though and they are measuring where they are supposed to. My ob gave me zofran (sublingual) tablets. The sublingual tablets have been the key for me since they work immediately! Good luck to you!
Teresa W thank you for your advice, I will absolutlly talk to my OB about switching, infortunatlly i ended up being admited at the hospital from 9/22/10 to 9/25/10 diagnosis: Hyperemesis Gravidarum ,which is a severe nausea and vomiting where me and the baby were not getting enough food and liquid. I had 13 IV'S with multivitamines and magnesuim, because I had low magnesuim, electrolites, iron and low blood count. I am home today but the nausea stated again, but i'am forcing myself to eat, i have a follow up appointment with my OB next week, I don't know what to do I thought with everything i'v been trough that i would have had a very smood pregnancy, but i guess not so far.
I really appreciate the fact that you took the time to write to me, lucky you,you are far along 24 weeks, 2 girls that is wonderfull ,you have so much choices with their outfits girls have beautifull clothes. So how you are doing now?
Jamila - Oh no, I am sorry that you had to be admitted to the hospital! I surely hope your nausea and vomiting starts to subside soon for you. How far along are you now?

Oh no Jamila that sucks!! The hospital is no fun at all!!! My sister was admitted at 7 mos for the same thing as you when she was pregnant with my niece! She is one of the reasons that I stated actually taking the zofran. I really didn't want to take the meds because I was scared that they would hurt the babies....I've gotten over that!
I had the same thought as you early on that this would be an easy pregnancy after all that we went through to finally get pregnant..... Not so much!! I also got hospitalized but at around 16 weeks, but for unexplained bleeding. I was on strict bedrest for 4 weeks where all I could do was get up to go to the bathroom. Then I was on modified bedrest for another month. I haven't worked since the end of July and am currently out of work until the babies come! My Dr. said my next goal is to get them to 28 weeks. Keeping my fingers and legs crossed!
I would call my Dr. on Mon or even today and see if s/he can call in a prescription for the sublingual tablets to your pharmacy. They really help to keep things down! I guess they are used a lot for chemo patients.
Angela way to go almost 28 weeks I am so happy for you, I see on one of your post that you are loosing weight too, hopefully baby Gabriella is getting enought nutrition, I will check your post tomorrow to see how your appointment went. wishing well, and take easy at work.
I am 13 weeks pregnant, yes i ended up being admited, yesterday i had some episodes of nausea, but i forced myself to eat because i sure don't want be hospitilized again. It's not fun being at the hospital unless you work there, this morning i am felling much better so far, good to hear from you and thank for your support.
Teresa W I will call tomorrow for the Zofran, so sorry for everything you been trough, I was so tired being at the hospital, so for you it was even harder, hospitlized, strict bed rest , but i am glad that you made it to 24 weeks almost there for your 28 weeks hang in there. These babies are priceless, hopefully they will behave well when they grow up. Like you said i did not want to take any medication at the beginning but no choice, like you I have not been at work for 3 weeks now, and i just starded that job i am on my 3 months probation, but i told them that i was pregnant when they hire me. I think work should be our less worry, because these babies have no price. I wish you the best and take it easy, you will have these babies soon just 4 more weeks to go, and thank you for your concern, and taking the time to advise.
Jamila,
I just wanted to check and see how you were doing? Were you able to get some of the sublingual zofran? I was just praying to the porcelain god and my husband brought me some zofran and I thought of you!
Hope you are doing better!
Teresa
Hi Teresa thank you for asking, I went for appointment today, the OB put me on medical leave until October 25, he requested that I have an RN from home health to startd coming to my house starting tomorrow, for more IV'S and to put the Zofran pump instead of the pills. He is concern the fact that I continue loosing weight and vomiting 6 times a day, he said the vomiting should be gone by now, and I should be starting gaining weight, some nutrition for me and the baby. The RN will be here tomorrow, I am so weak and tired, anyway thank you for thinking of me and taking the time to write me I am still keeping my finger cross, again thanks and take care.

Jamila - I am glad that your physician is taking aggressive action. The IV might be a good idea since you keep vomiting … obviously you aren’t keeping fluids down either. They also have rectal suppositories for patients who vomit a lot and the absorption is usually pretty good also from my experience with patients. Please keep us updated on your progress. I surely hope things start to turn around for you soon!
