Emma I'm thinking of you. I went straight into this cycle from last, however, I did not get to go full cycle last time but started BCP at onset of period.

I'm in bed laying with computer recovering from retrieval. They got 8 eggs out of my follies and we will get a quality check count tomorrow before ICSI is performed with dethawed frozen boys.

Retrieval went better than expected when they woke me up I asked if we were going to get started soon but as the meeds wore off I felt cramping. A little spotting so far when I go to bathroom other than that just crampy. Hoping for good recovery and high quality.

Hugs to all of you, I am so emotional.

txc-That sucks that you have to wait, but look at it this way, your uterus is where your baby is going to be for awhile & I'm sure you want it to be the perfect environment.

I'm not sure what I will do about the home test. I'm sure I will decide closer to. I had cramps & spotting the day before my test so I knew it would be negative. I had them call my husband though because I didn't want to hear it. I'm doing the same thing this time. I'm going to leave work early & find out, unless I decide to POAS. I've got some time to decide though. I guess we will see.

after BFN

Post by Emma839 »

Thank you for the support. Except for unanswered quetions, I am feeling all right now. I started taking BCP yesterday and will go to gym tonight. I got now one month time to quit coffee and get my body fit enough for the next round. Having something to work on and looking forward are actually not bad

What is POAS? I would not do the HPT before beta. Most final egg maturation is triggered by hCG and it would stay in the body for a couple of days. That's why I experienced full boon in the first period of my 2ww. If I do the test too early, it may present false positive, which I don't want to know.

For those who is or is going to be the 2ww, take care and relax a lot. Your babies are there waiting for you!

Hi ,

Emma: so sorry about the BFN! Hang in there!

The 2ww is much more difficult this time around. I will find out the outcome on Sunday. Since I am not working today, my brain is constantly thinking about you know what! On top of it, I started having significant cramping, as I do before AF.
Oh well, no sense torturing myself. Whatever will be will be.

Have a great weekend everyone!

8 is Enough!!!

Post by bringonthebabies »

Hey ladies-
Got my report: Today I found out that ALL 8 eggs retrieved yesterday were MATURE when reviewed in the lab today and
ALL 8 were successfully fertilized with the ICSI! Now we wait to her how they grow in their cozy petri cradle dishes! I nearly dropped the phone. In no way was I expected to hear that all 8 were mature enough. I know that anything can happen from this point on but I'm going to feel this happy feeling for a bit as I'm trying to enjoy the ride on this roller coaster of infertility.

Tomorrow will be a quiet day. They said that the lab doesn't like to look in on them on day 2 so that they can be in the dark and do what they do in incubation. So they're penciling me in for a Day 3 transfer we'll know before noon on Saturday if I need to go in or if it will be a 5 day. I hope we'll have some good ones to choose from for transfer and to put on ice for future.

TRANSFER INFO: Does anyone know the advantages or disadvantages of a 3 or 5 day transfer? I'm completely uneducated at this point. I only schooled myself up to egg retrieval because I wouldn't allow myself to go there before I knew we could go there and now i feel like i have a lot to learn QUICKLY about all of this cell division and transfer science of it all.... any good websites to learn on this part?

DEBATE on 2ww POAS: It took me a while to figure out that POAS meant Pee on A Stick. I think that they are less likely to be trusted than a blood test for ladies like us. Just thinking of all the extra hormones we are pumping in. Especially if you are on progesterone shots or inserts... that is the chemical that your body will make when your body thinks its pregnant that is why they give it to us to trick our bodies to think we are knocked up after retrieval leading up to and after transfer. I'm not sure which chemical the stick reads for in the pee but I would assume its a hormone based. So choose if you'd like to do so but it could give you a false positive due to hormones which is worse than getting negative because you think you are BFP and then the blood test will take you down with the BFN and we all know what that could do emotionally.

Thinking good thoughts for all of us. I wish you good luck, support and patience for any step of the process you may be on.
THANKS.

Hi,

Jersey: 3 day vs 5 day blastocyst. My clinic goes with 5 days and the resoning is that at 5 days you have a much better idea of the quality of the embies and if they have made it that far, it means that the chances that they will implant are better.
On day 3, there is still a chance that they will not continue to divide and therefore not be viable. Another reason why some labs like the 3 day transfer is that it is also cheaper for their lab cost. That's not to say though people don't get pregnant with day 3, but a day 5 indeed increases your chances.
Hope it helps.

And as much as I would like to get the home pregnancy kit, I will refrain from doing so. As each day goes by, your HcG levels, which is what they measure, almost double. So you might get a false positive if you test too soon.

Good luck to everyone,
Nancy

I found out this morning i have to have a D&C! I was sure he would say 21 more days of birth control pills because my uterine lining was still at 9mm. He said at the end of a normal woman's cycle your lining should be 2-3mm to begin your shots and all that. But because I never have a period but maybe once a year, even though I just had a period (2 very light days) on the Lupron, he dont feel like it is ok to do the IVF. He said that with a lining that thick, i would more than likely have a miscarriage. My RE called me himself. He is a remarkable Dr with very high pregnancy rates, and medical experience. Very well known in the Dallas, TX area. I trust him. So next thursday i have a pre op appt with my regular OBGYN here. Then friday, surgery. Just when i get close to being on a roll with the stims....BAM, something to knock me back!!!! Im so upset, but i know it is the right thing to do.

Please pray for me.

TX: so sorry for the D&C. But at least you know you have a caring, honest and competent RE who's not just out there wanting to make money and this will in turn increase you odds on your next try.
Hang in there!

Advice on how many to transfer decision

Post by JerseyTouchDown »

Does anyone have advice on making the decision on how many to transfer?

My husband is scared of multiples and I'm afraid of using just one and it not taking and me blaming him for not letting two. He said that now he will do what ever I want but I'm seriously scared I will not know how to make this decision. I can't concentrate when I have to pee and they are not giving us details until we show up on Monday with a full bladder to meet before transfer. We don't yet have the details as to our embryos are doing other than they are good for going to day 5 makes which gives us confidence.

Any thoughts/stories?
I'm 33 had high fish which led us to ivf. I may post this on the main board to...desperate for advice...

Thanks

Hey Girls

It was a BFN for us on Wednesday. I was surprisingly calm when I found out.

We've taken a few days to gather our thoughts. Emma we were also told they don't know why it didn't work too. Just we weren't one of the lucky ones I guess. We can go back to clinic to talk through the cycle with one ofthe consultants so they can see if the protocol needs changing. I think they will put us up to 4 vials of menopur rather than 3 to try to get more mature eggs out of me. We were told I had to have 2 natural periods (the bleed coming off progesterone doesn't count) before we can try again.

We thought long and hard about about it and have decided to try again after christmas. It will take some serious cut backs in our household to get some money together to pay for it. hope to scrape a few grand by january and the rest will have to go on credit cards.

Jerseytouchdown - Be guided by the clinic on the number to transfer. They will be able to give better info when they see how the embryos are progressing 8 is a great number and looks good to do a 5 day transfer for you which I think increases the success rates. With a good quality embie on a 5 day transfer I'm guessing they would recommend just 1 to go back in and freeze any others. But the only person that can make the call is you.

Good luck to the rest of you ladies.

lt81, I am so sorry for the news. I was actually a bit shocked because it seemed going very smoothly with you. I am just realised now that the wonder IVF is actually not a wonder; there exist still too many unknown that the doctor can deal with.
Compared with your doctor, my doctor seemed a bit loose. He suggested start a new stimulation without any physical check up. I had to insist to get an appointment for post ET consultation. I suspect this attitude may be due to the lab cost of IVF is covered by the insurance. I don’t feel comfortable when I have to trust my doctor so blindly.

Jersey, we were thinking of transfer 2, which is maximally allowed when I sitting in front of the doctor desk for the result of fertilisation. The main reason is our age. We don’t want to further delay our time to bring up our children. Of course, there are a lot of risks in multi-pregnancy. Here we cannot do anything but prey. I was very disappointed when it turned out we have only one for ET. I wanted to do 5-day transfer but it was not recommended for an unclear reason. This may affect the transfer. So, what I want to say is: take easy and be open to any outcomes. The babies are there waiting for us 

Txcpl, I will be pray for you. Sometimes, waiting is worth.

Nancy, I am turning 39 next month. Am I your target group?
