Mini IVF anyone??? Clinics in IL & NYC

Post by sable »

Hello again!
My search for finding the best clinic possible led me to Dr.Silber in St Louis. He didn't waste any time in telling me that I had a very low ovarian reserve :( (without doing any testing) and that Mini IVF was the only option for me and that no other doctor would take me on.
I have been looking at Mini IVF and found only a few places that do that apart from him.One is the New hope fertility center.

I wanted to know if anyone has had any success with mini ivf or at least heard anything about it.
Also any recommendation for a good clinic in Illinois and NYC.

Thanks in advance.

No,the cycle length is the same, only the medication is very less, only $600-1000.They want to get only a few follicles per cycle but do about 3 or more cycles to collect the required number of follicles.
Cost is also less but if you have to do more than one cylce the cumulative cost goes up.

I don't know anything about this doctor or Mini IVF - just read the post curious about what exactly "Mini IVF" is, actually. But I would be very distrustful of any doctor who does no testing and uses what amounts to a scare tactic to assure you that he is the ONLY doctor who would be willing to treat you and that his particular, lesser-known method is the only one that will work for you. I had an "allergist" who tried to do that with me. He condescendingly talked himself up as the leading expert, using advanced techniques that were the only thing that could help me. Turns out he isn't even a board certified allergist, the testing protocols he was using were completely outdated, and his treatment for food allergies is not FDA approved as pretty much every doctor everywhere agrees that it is both ineffective and incredibly dangerous. These outdated and inaccurate tests showed that I was so allergic to everything that I would have to take dozens of supplements - which he happened to sell at the front desk.

I am not saying that Dr. Silber is as big of a fraud as this guy (again, I know nothing about him) but something about how you describe your meeting with him raised major warning flags for me. I would get more opinions. Talk to other clinics about Mini IVF, including ones who don't currently do it. Those that offer it are likely to just talk up the benefits, but it would be equally interesting to know why other clinics don't offer it - too new? too costly or time-consuming? lower success rates?

I have heard nothing but wonderful things about Dr Silber and Mini IVF. If I didnt like my doc and had to find another...I would go seek him out out of anyone else in the states. I have been reading alot about Mini IVF and think it is a terrific new protocol for us older girls and DOR girls. Very exciting to see new approaches coming out now! Good Luck with whatever you decide! :D

Mini-IVF is cheaper but also less effective when compared to conventional stimulation.

You get what you pay for.
Avoid IVF and surrogacy in Ukraine. Ukrainian centers pay shills to post here under numerous sock accounts pretending to be patients in Ukraine. Centers using such deceptive advertising cannot be trusted and should be avoided.

When I had my consult with Dr. Silber he also recommended mini IVF. The one thing that got me is that they do a combination of clomid with a low dosage of follistim. I have heard that clomid is not good for older age people and people with DOR. Don't know for sure if this was true. Plus, if using such a low dosage on a person with DOR there could be a good chance that they would only get 1 or 2 follicles, which scared the heck out of me because on several of my IVF's i had a lot of empty follices. What if both follicles were empty. So with this and that Dr. Silber didn't take my insurance, I decided not to go to Dr Silber.

Thanks everyone!
I am still looking at other options. Will keep you updated :?

Wonder cat,I didnt totally trust his opinion too and that was why I posted it here to get some kind of feedback.

to_have_fun08, I am worried about the same thing, what if I don't get any follicles as the medication is less.I just had 4-6 follicles even in a regular IVF cycle.

Ghost, why do you say less effective?

TammyS,Why did he suggest you go for Mini IVF?did he do any testing ?

Thank you all for being so wonderful!

@ sable~ I'm also doing Mini IVF. I have a doctor here in Florida and he is WONDERFUL! Mini IVF is showing very similar success rates as traditional IVF depending on the person and their fertility needs/problems. I had 2 daughters with my husband naturally but have since had surgery and now have blocked tubes. Let me know if you are intrested and I can give you all my RE info. Best wishes sent to you on whatever you decide.
