Post by angelina »

hi angelina,

i'm not sure how it varies from place to place but i had mine done in two parts. first the blood tests, which were taken about 7 days before the scan. then the scan a week later, the blood test results were available so we waited about an hour for the bloods and scan to be put together for the final result.

the build up to the 12 wk scan is nerve wracking. i wish you all the best for wednesday. let us know how you and the TWINS!!! are doing.

hihi angelina, i can totally understand your apprehension on your
forcoming scan, im sure u will have nothing to worry about,
maybe worth looking at www.babycentre.co.uk which gave me
a bit more undestanding about the nuchal scan and what to expect.
I had to go private as our area does not pay for it, even though
they advised me to have it done due to my age (43), the consultant
put all the info into his computer while we were there and told us
the results while we were there (didnt have a blood test).
Let us know how your little ones our doing.

Angelina

Know what you mean about apprehensive - my blood pressure always goes up at the nuchal and this time was worst after losing Oliver at 20 wks.
You get the results straight away - with twins anyway they can't do the bloods as too misleading so do the nuchal - they just measure the fold at the back of the neck (nuchal fold) and then put this measurement and your date of birth in to the computer. If they were frozen - like mine they put an adjusted date of birth in as mine were done when I was 36 though I was 37 when I had the scan - clever hey? They then come up with a risk and an adjusted risk. They also look at the nose if they can - another indicator.
Good luck and keep us posted
