My 5th IVF...I just don't understand

Post by syanna »

I'm back on here because I feel so alone thru these cycles. It's now my 5th one after 4 unsuccessful ivfs, and still my family n friends don't know about this.
I'm 28, DH is 28, ttc for almost a decade. My 4th cycle was at a new clinic, antagonist, coasting, icsi and assisted hatching. 29 eggs, 29 matured, 20 fertilized, 2 (8 cell & 9 cell) transferred. They always have a hard time with the transfers cause my cervix is really curved. No success.
This 5th one, they lower my meds, still I did coasting, 17 eggs, icsi on 13, 10 fertilized. Transferred 3 (8 cells). I had a malencot procedure done to straighten out my cervix, the practice went right thru, but then again trouble with the transfer. I'm now on my 2ww...and I'm so worried it won't work again. Is it cause the coasting? Is it cause my damn cervix?! Will transferring 3 give me a better chance this time? Please, anyone...provide me with some hope, stories, etc. I only have 1 more cycle left that ins will pay for...I hope to use it for additional babies, not my first. : (

Syanna – I am sorry for your long journey to have a child. I too understand the amount of time that you have been trying to conceive because my DH and I have been trying to conceive for 10 years also. I am sorry to say that I don’t have any answers for you because it can be so many things but I am definitely here to listen and provide support. It sounds like you have tried another RE, which is good. But, you stated you had a procedure to straighten out your cervix but they still had trouble with the transfer; what exactly did your RE have trouble with following your procedure on your cervix? If I remember correctly from one of my transfers, when one of the RE’s had trouble with the transfer is when I got my BFN so maybe that was the problem for you also. But, I think that you still should remain positive for this transfer because you did have the procedure to correct one of the problems. I know it is hard but remember keeping a good mental attitude has a lot to do with your outcome. I will be praying for you and looking for you to tell us that you finally got your BFP in two weeks!

Awe, thank u ladies for the kind comforting words : ).

Angela - when I did my transfer, they 1st did a practice and the catheter went in straight and easily, but then when they did the actual transfer they had a hard time putting it thru. So they brought the embryo back in and tried another practice...it was still hard, but finally they got them in (I hope!). Stupid cervix.

So now I'm 2dp3dt...still a bit crampy from the ER. I hope this time is it for me!

I am sorry Syanna to hear about what you are going through. We equally have a big problem with my fist transfer due to my cervix being curved. My RE decided to do a moch transfer times time around. He used a bigger catheter during the mock transfer in order to make the path a bit bigger or something like that. He still had a bit of trouble but it was much faster.
Furthermore, during the ER he used the liquid that remains removing the swimmers to clean my womb in order to prepare it for the ET. I have no idea what the procedure is called in English but know it in German.
What being said.......I just got my BFP on Thursday. I cannot believe it and thank God for this... I cannot even count how many negative HPT I have seen in ever since we started we trying... I keep on looking at the test...still need to accept this good news as I thought it would never happen to me.
So do not give up....eventually..IVF works.... Just have faith

Hi syanna,

Just posting to give you a bit of hope, i didnt get my 1st bfp till my 5th attempt even though it and the 6th attempt ended in miscarriage we still didnt give up and are now (fingers crossed) 34 wks pregnant. I didnt have a prob. with my cervix but did have an egg quality issue and also elevated natural killler cells which confused my body into thinking embroys and feutus were "foreign" and expelled them from my body, with the help of extra meds and 4 sessions of Intralipid drips (though some doctors are still not convinced of these) we finally got and held onto a pregnancy. Best of luck i really hope this is your time

I have a retroverted uterus, which I don't think is to much of a problem. During my transfer the RE did the mock @ the transfer. He first put the mock catheter in and found the place he wanted and then put the catheter in with the embryos through the mock catheter and then released the embryos . I thought that was brilliant why fumble with the catheter that has our precious embryos. I am 19 weeks now after 5 attempts. I had a problem with hyperstimming which I wonder if you had too ? My Estradoil level was elevated with my first IVF cycle @ 6000 @ transfer I transferred 2 blasts and BFN  This time I increased my embryos 3 3day embryos and kept my estradoil level under 4000 with my fabulous new RE and it worked. I hope any of this information helps. My RE also kept me reclined for an hour after transfer.

Thank you ladies! I'm happy to hear all these success stories. I'm 7dp3dt today, just minor cramps, headaches n achey boobies, which I'm assuming is all from the PIO shots. I'm bad, I took a hpt and it's neg : (. I'm hoping I'm just too early to test. Hubby doesn't know sshhhhh.
If only RE knew exactly what's wrong with me and fix it. But it seems like it's a trial n error case. Dr said it's basically like flipping the coin. Not much encouragement there. But he said he still feels optimistic with me cause of my age...but gosh, I sure feel like I'm I'm my 50s trying to get pregnant.

I'm not losing hope...just time.
