beta hCG after miscarriage - help! (Ghost)

Post by leorira11 »

As many of you know, our recent IVF ended in a missed miscarriage at 8 weeks - and a D&C at 10 weeks. The D&C was 5 weeks ago.

I'm desperately waiting for my period. I still have 'retained tissue' in my uterus, and the big hope is that my period will flush out this tissue. I'm also dying to start a new FET cycle. (It's my twin's first birthday in heaven in December, and being pregnant again would make that soooo much easier).

Here's my question - I'm supposed to get a period when my beta hCG 'hits zero'. But from what I understand, "zero" means anything under 5. My beta today was 26 (and halving about every 3.5 days - so it should get to less than 5 in about 8-10 days). At what point can I expect my period? I'm already spotting a teeny-tiny bit brown and having period-like cramping. Does this mean my period will come soon?

I know that the answer is "wait and see", but I wanted to know if anyone else has experience with this.

I think the answer to your question is yes you most likely are already feeling your arriving period. With my miscarriage this summer my period started a few days after my hcg reached 40 ( I guess it reached 0 shortly thereafter) so I am not a doctor but experience says you are close.

Good luck :)

My guess is that it will arrive any day now. With my first miscarriage...the bleeding started when my hcg had only dropped to the 300's...so it is just a matter of when your body is ready more than hcg numbers I think. This last miscarriage my numbers weren't under 5 when my miscarriage/AF started either. My miscarriages werent D&C's though and were very early along...so not sure if there is a difference or not. Good Luck with everything.

ETA: I think I misunderstood your question and my info doesnt even help you, does it? lol

It would generally need to drop below 5 and stay there a few days.
Avoid IVF and surrogacy in Ukraine. Ukrainian centers pay shills to post here under numerous sock accounts pretending to be patients in Ukraine. Centers using such deceptive advertising cannot be trusted and should be avoided.

Leorira - I think one important thing is that you need to get rid of that tissue. It might not come out with your period but you will need it removed before you get pregnant again. Because the tissue is still in there, it might be preventing your HCG from dropping more quickly. For me, I had a period exactly 4 weeks after all of my miscarriages and even after I delivered my daughter after losing her at 21 weeks. I want you to know that I am so sorry to hear about your twins and your miscarriage … I do remember following your story and have replied to you in the past. You are such a strong woman to keep going but that is what you need to do.

thanks all!

I just hate when the answer is "wait and see". Oh well... I guess there is nothing to do but "wait and see"!

Angela-
I'm very aware that the 'retained tissue' has to leave before we can even think about starting again- The doctors hope that my period will flush it out, so that's one reason I'm desperate for my period. (If not, we'll do a hysteroscopy - or, worst case, another D&C - but if it leaves on it's own, that's best for me and for trying again)

I figured that you were but wanted to make sure. I surely hope that your AF gets rid of the tissue! I would hate for you to have to go through another procedure. Please keep us updated!

Hi leorira11,
I also had a miscarriage and not very well done D&C on the 7 September. And yet-beta levels not down to 0( 8 today). The incompetently done procedure annoys me more than the bad luck with miscarrying after the ivf (pricey financially and emotionally )ordeal – may be because it is a human error rather than things I can’t do anything about. But I am trying to remind myself to be patient but I am with you on this one: how is it possible to be patient?!
Not much info to give, but thought it might make you feel better to know you are not alone in the ( in my case-stupidly- done ) D&C s- and not yet recovered from it-group.
Not long to go now for both of us, I hope!

Macsi-

D&C after IVF is really just adding insult to injury. I had my D&C in the same out-patient procedure room as all of my IVFs procedures - how awful is that!

Also - the doctor who does "planned" D&Cs (which I was since I had a missed miscarriage, not an emergency because of an incomplete miscarriage) only does them once a week - so we had to wait 2 weeks from when we found out the baby died. AND THEN - I finally figured out what "planned" D&Cs are for most people.... abortions. Elective abortions. Just people who don't want their babies. So, I had to wait with 3 other women - all of whom where there for ELECTIVE ABORTIONS! (I saw their files, mine said "missed", theirs said "elective") That really bothered me.

I hope my hCG keeps dropping every aprox 4 days - I really need to start again. My twins first birthday (in heaven) is at the end of December. It would be so fantastic to be pregnant again before then....

I am sorry hun, this is so hard but wait and see is probably best for now, I know it is hard. I had my m/c after a shot and my HCG still was not zero, it took a week for it to go from 8 to 5, it was frustrating. I am sorry you have to go through this. I am also sorry that you have to sit with ladies that are electing not to have their babies, everything is hard right now. I am not judging them, they probably have their reasons and I am not against it. But when you so desperatly wnat your baby it is hard to see this. Huge hugs hun.

Hi, leorira11
I thought about that too-are these people I am waiting with are having the A procedure? Because there for a moment I wanted to come out and slap their stupid faces ( and I have to tell you-I am very non-confrontational person!). But I had to remind myself that everybody has their reason for doing things and I should not be judgemental ( it felt uncomfortable!).I decided ( with the help of the kindest person I know-my DH) to not gather anymore negative feelings and think about after the –as you say -”the added insult to an injury”.
I, too-feel like the time is running out-I will be 39 next month, but Iam trying to create a plan B possibility-TTC-negative...and just accept it ( if it comes to it). I know this is not an option for you and I am sure you will not have to face it. I will be looking forward to find out when you are going for the FET. Have you decided how many to transfer yet? I can’t decide what to do when the time comes.
Hopefully next week levels will be down to 0, things will get flushed out and we will be able to make a plan and know what and when to expect.
It will all be fine...eventually.
