I am going thru my 1st ER on Tuesday. I have a LOT of follies (PCOS) but I am worried about quality. Just need someone to talk me past this ledge I feel like I'm standing on. Not sure exactly what to expect before and after ER. I have had some reconstruction work done on my uterus which was pretty painful after surgery (>90% chance of miscarriage with the old uterus). Just wondering if anyone else has similar circumstances or any experience regarding ER they don't mind sharing to keep me calm.
My ER was really not bad at all. I was sedated and when I woke up it was all over. I had some very mild cramping which was less than typical pms cramps. Also my doctor told me to take tylenol throughout the day to sat completly comfortable. Don't worry it really isn't that bad at all.
Good luck to you

krisnjer- I don't know what your previous surgeries were like but ER is not bad! The worst part for me was the 20 minute wait after the retrieval with a full bladder! At first I had some bleeding and cramping, which nurse said might have been a little worse than usual since they retrieved 22 eggs. By the end of the day no more bleeding or even spotting. Cramping continued but it was pretty mild and my lower abdomen was just tender for a few days but nothing that was really painful or terrible at all. The reality is you only need a few quality ones. I thought I was golden with 22 eggs and ended up with only 1 left to freeze after the whole thing. So you never know... Don't be nervous! Good luck on Tuesday

Krisnjer – You will be absolutely fine during and after ER. I too had an extensive surgery prior to ER and ET because of fibroid tumors and a partial placenta remaining in my uterus. So yes, I was pretty sore following the surgery and to be honest that was worse than ER and ET for me. During my ER, I was put under general anesthesia so I didn’t feel anything and when I woke up it was all over. I did have a little cramping following the ER but it was similar to menstrual cramps, which you have felt time and time again, so you will be fine. If you are concerned about any pain following the ER, you can ask your RE about taking something for the minor pain. Good luck and I know you will be ok!
ER was painful for me, but I did have 22 eggs the first round and 32 the second... I asked the doctor for more meds the second time around and he gave me more than double the normal dose. They said I metabolized the meds at an astounding rate. It wasn't fun, but it was tolerable. I also had some pretty good cramping afterwards and could not walk faster than a slow shuffle for a day and a half. However, as my own sweet mama says... that's nothing compared to childbirth - just part of the journey. You'll be fine, it's different for everyone, but I've yet to meet anyone who wouldn't do it again if it meant a baby.

17 eggs ... that is great! So now you are just waiting for the fertilization report I assume! Good luck!

Congrats!
A little piece of advice: My dr told me I was at a particularly high risk for OHSS. I ended up being fine, thank god and I think the trick was I drank a TON of gatorade. Literally a ton plus lots of fluids in general. It's so counterintuitive to drink when you're at risk for retaining fluid but that was his advice and it worked!
Good luck!

JLY123- Good to know it helps! My Dr said gatorade, V8 juice and water. My DH is keeping me on task too. Every time I see him he has another bottle of gatorade or V8 juice or refilled my water bottle and gently reminds me that the alternative (OHSS) is not very pleasant. I don't think I have ever been to the bathroom so much in my life! Still feeling a little sore today (especially after the PIO shots uggh) but nothing can take the off of my face right now!
It's worth it when you get your BFP! PIO injections hurt much less in the butt (upper butt) by the way. I've been doing them for a couple weeks now...at first I was in hell, but eventually you get used to it. I def look like a pin cushion but I'm telling you it gets better! Keep that positive attitude!
