Starting treatment - need some advice

Post by Lyns »

Hello,

My husband and I are starting treatment this Monday and I am feeling excited but really nervous now! I am having the Prostap depot injection and then my baseline scan is on the 7th June, if everything is ok will then start the menopur injections on the 8th June. Does anybody know what the prostap injection is like - are there any side effects? We were told a bit about it in a meeting with our nurse a couple of months ago but this is our first time and everything from that meeting is a bit of a blur now.

hi Lyns

Welcome to the board. I am sorry I can't help you with your answer to the Prostap injection but I just would like to wish you loads of luck for Monday. There is a June cycle buddy thread with all us girls cycling in June. I will be starting hopefully mid June. Just waiting for my blood test results to come and then my AF and then off we go. It will be my 4th fresh cycle so I'm a bit of a veteran. I am a bit nervous though as it's not long since I lost my daughter in February.

Come and join us on the other thread where we can help you, hold your hand and try to answer some of your questions as they arise. Where are you having treatment?

It's a tough old road doing IVF but medical science has moved forward so quickly that our chances are much better than even a year ago.

Lots of luck and babydust

Hi Lyns,

I've just finished a 6 month course of Prostap, so feel I'm an expert on them.

They are not too bad especially if you are only having them for one month and will be having stim injections after two weeks. They affected my sleep after about three weeks from the first injection and I started having hot flushes around the same time.

I don't think you will have any of the side affects I did as you'll only have one injection and if you have any they will wear off very quickly, I had my last injection on 30th March and by early May everything was fine again.

Hope this is of help. Give me a shout if you have anymore questions.

Wishing you the best of luck.

Hi Lyns,

I have had the prostap injection just over 2 weeks ago, and then like you I will be going onto menopur (2nd June so near you too!)..

Like you I was a bit worried as this is my first IVF, so here's what I've been feeling... The first week or so I did have headaches but they definately ease with drinking plently of water.. Also I just felt really tired but I am not sure if that is because of having to give up exercise, and I normally do LOTS! As for now I feel completely fine! No side effects, but I would say try to take it easy and go with it as it's all for a good reason!

Wishing you lots of luck!

Hi Lyns

Just wanted to wish you all the best in your treatment. It's a rollercoaster of emotions, but can be worth it in the end. Fingers crossed for you...
