I am hoping someone can give me an answer to why having a bath is a no no after ET. I have endometriosis and as part of my pain control I take hot baths. All the drugs seem to have kicked off the endo and I have been in a lot of pain off and on. I had ET on Wednesday and would love to have a bath when I get the pain but am scared it may effect my chance of a positive. This is my first attempt at IVF and I am so nervous about doing things I shouldn't.
Has anyone else got endo that has been effected by the treatment.
Thanks.

Hi there Shelli
Well my last clinic said no and a few girls in the past have said no but my latest clinic said you can if you like ! also you can go swimming or exercise just to be normal BUT I am not PG after 4 ICSI so I guess I wouldnt even listen to what I have to say sorry but I wanted to help!!!
I am now suffering AF after my BFN and it kills so I know what you mean except I can take pain killers and you cant, you poor thing what about those new pads you can get for period pain
Thanks Traci, I haven't heard of any pads you can take for period pain. What are they called? I ended up having a very luke warm bath with my legs closed!! I wasn't sure if the reason for not having a bath had something to do with the heat or the water. I'm so daft but it did help with the pain. The motion of the water on my back helps. The pains haven't been as bad today so I have just used meditation and deep breathing.
Thanks for replying and hope your AF pains subside soon.

Do you know that you can get aromatherapy bean bags that you can put in the microwave for 2minutes.the heat works wonders on pain & wouldn't be as intense as a bath or hot-water-bottle. Most shops sell them,so keep an eye out.
Hope you feel better. I feel much better tonight

Hi Shellie,
Good luck in your 2 week-wait, first of all!
Well, in terms of having baths, my clinic definitely said no baths, which iu=s to avoid infection. I don't think the heat is so much of a problem as bits going in that shouldn't (if you know what I mean). For that reason they also said no swimming. A friend of mine going through IVF at a different clinic had the same advice from her doctors.
Hope this helps at all - oh, I think the pads Traci means are 'heat pads' which work like a mini-hot water bottle and you stick them on your tummy, where the pain is. I also have endometriosis, so I used to use them during heavy periodpains...!
Hope this helps a little, am probably not the best person to give any advice, because haven't been on here for very long.
GOOD LUCK and hope you get a BFP!
Best wishes,
bina

Hi Shellie,
I sympathise very much as I've had endometric cysts and so much pain from enndo all over but do try to skip the baths, it is to avoid infection, my hospital said the same as the others who have posted here. hang in there, as you know if you get pg it will help the endo too! Will be keeping my fingers crossed for you!
love,
juliana
Thank you so much for the replys. I haven't had a bath since and am trying the deep breathing and meditation to get through the pain. They haven't been as bad today and my boobs hurt. Is this a good sign?? I haven't had AF for over 8 months so forgot what it feels like before it arrives. Oh well I guess I will just have to wait.
Thanks again,
Shellie

I there - poor you - I can REALLY sympathise with tummy cramps - had that joy all my adult life!
I was never told baths were a problem and I think I had some on the 2WW -just not really hot. Probably a good idea to time them so that you dont have them just after you've had a pessarie! Apart from that I was basically told to carry on as normal. I have heard somewhere that lavender is not a good idea in baths if you are pregnant - so maybe avoid that!
Take care and all the best
Cazx
I'm with Caz with the lavender - I thought it was supposed to encourage menstruation.
I'm sorry you've been feeling so rotten - I have endo too and it's rotten. I was always very sore for couple of weeks after ET, but remember, they've also been poking about inside, so that'll probably have irritated everything too. I thought hot baths were a no-no, but warm baths ok. Very hot baths will raise your fluid temperatures inside - my sister was also told this. If the warm bath helps - stick to that - you have to find a balance somewhere.
I had lavender baths recommended to me - not on the 2ww though!!
Shellie you can take paracetamol for the pain - it really is ok - not sure if this will ease the pain at all.
Most clinics recommend no baths - really so bloody silly isn't it as normal pg they have flaming baths as totallly unaware that any emby/embies sitting there. They like us to be on the safe side so we can't blame it on baths or swimming or sex of generally anything normal if it doesn't work!
Good luck
Love
